He surely can’t be getting enough sleep?

If you’re a shift worker how much sleep do you get? Do you feel ok after it?

DH is a shift worker, usually does 6-6 or 6:30-6:30 both days and nights in a mixed pattern

He usually has a run of at least 3 or 4 days off weekly which he uses to catch up on rest where possible. If he is working a day shift he will wake up at 4am. Work is only two miles away but he likes having time to get ready, have breakfast and ideally be early there as then sometimes he finishes early.
Thing is, we often aren’t in bed until gone 10pm meaning he usually gets around 5-6 hours of sleep. I know he feels tired but seems to plod on and doesn’t complain but falls asleep on the settee after dinner

After a night shift he usually manages more like 7 hours but I’m a bit worried about any potential health issues that could be caused by only having 5 hours on his day shifts? I could never do shifts, it would play havoc with my body clock!

I work shifts, but mine are all over the place.

Currently doing 4pm-1am, Im getting 8/9h a day. When Im doing morning shifts (usually 7am), I dont get much sleep, as I cant go to bed before 11pm/12am, and then need to wake up at 6.

When im doing nights, it varies... If its a 7pm-4am, I get about 6/7h. if its a 11pm-7am, only about 4hs.

You get used to it, and it the stretches arent too long, it isnt too bad. Im struggling more on this 4-1 shift, cause its 6 days in a row, than if I was on early shifts for 3 days!

As for health concerns... I doubt it will be that bad. 6h is not 0h, and he can then rest on his days off.

My DP seems to get very little sleep too as is up early (sometimes 3am as his start times vary). He can survive on about 5-6 hours a night. I’m more of a 8 hours plus and so it amazes me. And he seemingly has more energy than me. I think we’re all just built to function differently!

Six hours is plenty if he catches up on his days off.
