If you're in a ULEZ zone, do you only consider buying a petrol car?

I'm scrapping my diesel car as it fails the ulez test in outer London.
I'm thinking of buying a petrol car but I'm wondering if I should consider a diesel that's a few years old.
Or is that just taking a risk that they'll change the rules in a few years and exclude more diesels?
I guess I'm asking is it just safer to buy a petrol?

We just bought a diesel but newer than our non compliant one. It has very low emissions.

I swapped to petrol only id you read the mayors transport strategy u can see what he is planning. They will make it harder for people with diesel and eventually petrol too. They are looking at wanting it to be only electrical vehicles in congestion zone first then expand that out by 2050. They are also looking at pay per mile.

I opted for petrol as it'll give more time before I have to switch

I've only ever had a petrol car because I've been stopped behind so many diesels in my life, on my bike, to realise that their emissions are so much worse than petrol vehicles.
