Best City break on your own

Thinking of going for a 2 or 3 night city break on my own in Europe but not sure where - anyone got any recommendations for where's good to go as a solo traveller- this will probably be around end of September or early October?

Barcelona is good. Lovely weather and food and it’s very walkable. You just have to be mindful of pickpockets but I never felt unsafe

Seville is lovely so is Florence. Both small cities with lots to see and loads of people watching opportunities.

I've been to Luxembourg, Bruges, Ghent and Tallin on my own. All very different but always felt safe.

Rome

Bruges, Seville, Granada, Budapest, Bilbao, Venice. All small enough to feel that you get to know them as cities but with enough interesting places to visit, things to do, decent restaurants etc. Berlin is also great, but obviously much larger and more urban.

Forgot Florence!

Forgot Florence!

How could you?! Florence is unforgettable.

Bordeaux? Paris?

summerytop · 26/08/2023 15:30

So many great ideas here that I'd never have thought of- thank you! going off to research

I never tire of Paris. But I agree Seville and Granada would make a fabulous break. You can get a coach between citifies.

GuardiansPlayList · 26/08/2023 16:16

Sienna.

Batatahara · 26/08/2023 16:17

I don't love Florence as much as others, somehow always find it disappointing!

My choices would be Barcelona, Lisbon, or Seville. I really like Genoa as well and have heard good things about Trieste.

marmaladeandpeanutbutter · 26/08/2023 16:21

You definitely need to be careful of pickpockets in Barcelona. There is a huge problem. Rome would be lovely.

Shangrilalala · 26/08/2023 16:22

Lisbon. Spent quite a bit of time there on my own when working there. Always felt safe and I practically walked the city. 30 minute train to the coast is lovely for a fish meal too. We go back frequently as a family but it’s never quite the same as when I had the freedom to roam and just please myself!

PinkFootstool · 26/08/2023 16:24

Paris is a doddle on your own, use the trains to get around . So is Berlin (you can walk most of it) and Budapest (more trains!).

I'd go back to Budapest tomorrow just to get in the Szecheniy hot baths again.

I loved Seville, Grenada, Krakow and Bruges on my own.

Any of the Italian cities and Berlin, Barcelona and Madrid all much better with friends / family.

BlurMeUp · 26/08/2023 16:31

*Granada!

My phone thinks I take more exotic trips than I do!

TheYear2000 · 26/08/2023 16:34

Paris, Rome, Madrid, Florence?

I loved Rome by myself- so much to do, easy to walk around the centre and amazing food.

I love being in Paris by myself too!

I'm envious! Solo city breaks are amazing!

Ilovegardens · 26/08/2023 16:34

Definitely Lisbon. Beautiful city with loads to do and excellent transport links.

Hbh17 · 26/08/2023 16:47

Vienna - quite compact, lots if fabulous art, and lovely cafes.

summerytop · 26/08/2023 17:23

More great ideas, thanks. Going to look at Seville, Rome or Paris I think. Although Luxembourg also seems fascinating. I would go to any of them really!

Copenhagen, I felt very safe there. Loads to do, great food, easy to get too.

Meadowdog · 26/08/2023 17:33

Reykjavik, Florence or Lisbon.

oldscrappynhungry · 26/08/2023 18:19

I've done the following on my own: Rome, Florence, Pisa, Paris, Budapest, Brussels. Would recommend them all. But faves for solo travel at that time of year would be Florence or Budapest. Florence is walkable, and Budapest is, to an extent, but the trams and metro are brilliant to explore the whole city.

professionalnomad · 27/08/2023 13:25

Sarajevo is wonderful
