Husband has audition for TV quiz - any advice??

Name change as could be outing…

Can’t quite believe this but DH has an online audition for a big TV quiz coming up! He has to introduce himself for 3 mins inc a ‘fun fact’ which is probably the hardest thing to think of as really there isn’t anything that exciting he can say 😆

Has anyone been through a similar process and did they get on the actual show? He would love to be on TV doing this, while it’s my worst nightmare!! He actually applied w DD but she didn’t get a call (but they did ask him
if he applied with anyone else).

I'm.no help, I hate that bit of quiz shows.

The only people I know who've been on TV were on Countdown (and actually won a lot of times and pointless where they just missed out). They were both super, super bright.

I hope he gets through and eventually wins you a lovely prize!

My DH did this 20 odd years ago and was on the challenge TV channel. He was on 5 shows and kept winning so they invented a rule that said you had to retire after 5 episodes. They were literally making up the rules of the game show as it was being filmed and ran over time so he was there a few days rather than the one day it was supposed to be. He won £12k which was great back then.

I auditioned for 'In it to win it' but didn't get on. They did say that not being chosen didn't mean that you weren't suitable, it could be that they had already selected enough people of a similar type/age/look etc so needed different types

The actual audition day itself was great fun and it did seem that most of the people there had already been on at least one other quiz, they seemed to be doing the rounds of them all.

Oh and they did say that if you got through and won, you were not allowed to tell anyone and you wouldn't get your winnings until after the show had aired an TV, which could be up to 12 months away!

They audition a lot of people.
They can be bad at getting back to you even if you get through.
They can leave you in limbo for ages. I auditioned in Oct and got a call in the Feb to go for filming at the weekend.
It’s a lot of fun.
It’s harder in real life than sat at home - so practise at home.

After I was on TV a woman on mumsnet called me thick. Which was harsh! Another asked about calling her baby my name and I wonder if she did!

Oh and about the comment about others being on a quiz already - once you have done one, runners remember you and you get called directly about others because they know you can cope with tv.

They'd never pick me as my ADHD would go on some sort of grand prix circuit at every question about myself!

A friend of mine was on one once. He said he was told to avoid wearing anything with a small check or pattern, as the cameras don't like them much, and to avoid logos also.

I was on pointless 5 years ago and had to go to auditions wih 6 other duo's - we got picked because we were 'fun and had a personality". They really want people who will be good on screen. Tell him to really engage with people and be different.

Just make aug a "fun fact", eg:
I once shaved my head for charity and when my hair grew back it was a completely different colour
I've had yogurt and bananas with chocolate sprinkles for breakfast every day of my life for the past 25 years
I used to live on a houseboat, but had to move to dry land when it sank
My parents were both opera singers but I am completely tone deaf
When I was in there scouts, I sat so many badges that my mum had to sew them on my shorts as well as my shirt
My favourite Karaoke song is Remember You're a Womble, in German

... I am sure you can come up with some better ones than that!

Thanks all!! And well done to those who’ve won the big money!!
He’s seeing it all as a bit of a laugh rather than to win the big bucks (would be life altering but not specifically life changing, I’d press to move house) but it would still be amazing if he got on.
We are sort of making up some fun facts with a grain of truth in them just in case he’s pressed further.
will keep you posted and let you know if he makes it.
Pointless and the Chase would be my choices if I had the inclination, but I don’t!!!

Updated to say he had the audition but he doesn’t think he’ll get picked. Said it was fun though but - and he didn’t listen to me here - he didn’t really prepare his intro so was waffling!
