Bamboo toilet paper, anyone using it?

I've been looking at these big boxes of loo roll that are apparently more ethical (who gives a crap / bazoo / bum boo / naked sprout etc)

I think I want to try but you have to order massive boxes of them. Some of the reviews say they are rough. I don't want to buy a minimum of 24 rolls (this seems to be a small box) and then hate it.

Has anyone already converted? What's your review please?

I've used cheeky panda stuff before and ordered it online. Seemed soft enough to me

Swarmingbees · 26/08/2023 09:50

Have used ‘who gives a crap’. The softness was comparable to Andrex.

However, the rolls were variable in terms of sheet thickness, even within a single box.

i stopped using them because I found them expensive and a real storage issue.

I saw bamboo toilet roll in asda recently. Brand was 'The Good Roll'

Yes! Used Who Gives a Crap for a while, converted to Naked Sprout for eco reasons. Just as soft, plenty thick enough (I don't like quilted, and it's not as thick as that, but it's not flimsy and shit).

Not beautiful - it's brown - but that's because it's not bleached. Totally used to it now! If you 'let it mellow' overnight, it looks a bit grim in the morning in the toilet, but that's what the flush is for!

I like the security of having a big stash in the house, so the 24 rolls thing isn't an issue.

I will not go back to supermarket bleached white stuff now.

I've just started using Bazoo bamboo loo roll. It was an adjustment at first as it's thinner than the quilted stuff I normally use, but it's quite soft and smooth, and maintains its integrity, so you don't get bits of loo roll flaking off and sticking to your bits.

Each roll lasts forever. Much longer than standard loo rolls, and, shallow that it turns out I am, the rolls look pretty! Who'd have believed I'd have loo roll as part of my bathroom decor!

yellowpurplebrown · 26/08/2023 10:25

Ok thanks, when I read reviews about it being rough I envisioned it scratching my bum! 😆 or that awful tracing paper stuff you used to get in public loos!

I use Who Gives A Crap. Very soft, though you need somewhere to store the big box.

Lily124 · 26/08/2023 10:27

We use who gives a crap bamboo toilet paper and it's really soft! More sheets on a roll too so lasts a really long time

Lysianthus · 26/08/2023 10:28

Bazoo here too. Brilliant for all the eco reasons plus cheaper and v soft. I store in nooks and crannies, all individually wrapped so quite easy to squirrel away.

yellowpurplebrown · 26/08/2023 10:30

Right you've talked me into it! Am ordering now! Thank you 😊

I use Bazoo, but you can get trial packs through most of the companies. I got a trial through Naked Sprout (which i loved, but my partner hated the colour!) And I think Bazoo too. I would do that first to try some brands.

WandaWonder · 26/08/2023 10:39

Is it able to be flushed, as in is it safe to be flushed for the pipes/sewerage system?

Naked sprout scratched my bum!

LivStanshall · 26/08/2023 10:43

I’ve just started using Naked Sprout. It’s fine.

JulesJules · 26/08/2023 10:58

We have the 'who gives a crap' bamboo range and I really like them, feels soft - softer than normal loo roll - I love the absence of any plastic in the packaging. The outer boxes are sturdy enough to use for D1's university packing. I like having loads in so there's no possibility of running out. I just stack them up, they look quite nice. I usually add the tissues and kitchen roll onto the order.

JulesJules · 26/08/2023 11:03

I can probably get a link for £5 off if anyone interested (for 'Who gives a crap')

saraclara · 26/08/2023 11:07

Unfortunately, WGAC don't do trial packs, which is why I didn't go with them.

Bazoo does a two roll trial pack which was perfect. As someone who lives alone, there's no way I'd have ordered a huge box full without having tried it first.

I think Bazoo is a tad cheaper as well.

yumscrummy · 26/08/2023 11:26

I used bazoo (switched from Who Gives a Crap) and very impressed.

I have been looking at the kitchen roll this week but that seems really expensive!

AnotherMrsAverage · 26/08/2023 11:43

Like WGAC. Store them vertically out of the way. You can buy them in Waitrose now.

Icycloud · 26/08/2023 11:44

buying bamboo toilet roll will make virtually no difference. Just use normal toilet roll

yellowpurplebrown · 26/08/2023 12:11

I've ordered 24 rolls from bazoo for the very superficial reason that I like the wrapping best!

Yep, the black and white wrap for WGAC bamboo stuff is really boring compared to the wrap they use for their recycled paper.
Also, while I don't object to their name at all, and I'm absolutely comfortable with any pejoratives that other people use, I don't use the word crap, so I having it on the wrap isn't something I would choose when there's an alternative. .

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 26/08/2023 14:00

I switched to https://www.ruraltrading.co.uk/Boxroll as it's made in the uk from uk paper waste, and not shipped half way round the globe.

lindsaylovestea · 20/02/2024 15:06

I've swapped to Bamboo Bobbi from WGAC, I found them a lot better for the environment (they are not bleached and don't wrap each roll) Just wish they did kitchen roll.
Also just discovered they have changed to a non profit and donate toilet roll to UK food banks!

SuperDad87 · 21/03/2024 09:50

Be careful with your brand. WHICH? recently tested all the toilet rolls claiming to be 100% bamboo. Only Cheeky Panda and Who Gives a Crap were actually 100%.

Bamboo toilet paper, anyone using it?
