What I don't understand is how in a country of 334 million people, with world reknowned universities full of clever folk and clever entrepreneurs and principled civil rights activists, snd millions of bright charismatic people, not to mention a massive church-going population who should know right from wrong, that the only options for president are a very, very old, well-meaning but wobbly chap or an ancient mafia-style crook.

Can anyone explain this? Why are there no other options? 334 million people and this is the best they can do?

It's a very good example of the kubrick stare. Can't work out if they shot him from slightly high up ( unlikely in a police mugshot setting) or if he purposefully set his head at a weird angle. In that case what did he think this would convey. Because as PP have mentioned it is generally used to convey madness or evil.

I do agree overall with your point about how these two can be the best options in such a populous country, but your comment about Biden being "well meaning"...he is arguably worse than Trump.Completely self serving and corrupt! Not to mention what he has done to womans rights!
