Edinburgh Fringe - When do you book a place to stay? No Premier Inns left!

I've just looked at booking accommodation for next year and Premier Inn is all sold out a whole year in advance. Booking.com have 90% unavailable for next year too.

I thought booking a year in advance would be ok, obviously not, but am curious when most hotels open their bookings, is it more than a year in advance?

When do the majority start looking for accommodation for the Fringe?

Have a look at student accomadation, I stayed in one with DD to watch the European championships for diving and hadn't cottoned on it was the Fringe too. It was cheap, clean, Sainsbury downstairs and access to the student kitchen. Other people were staying there but we didn't really hear or see them. I think I booked it on booking.Com

We've always find somewhere, as long as you have a decent budget. Even premier inns are not cheap there during Fringe unless you stay near the airport. Access into the city centre by tram is straightforward but you then often need to walk to venues. It may be that hotels have not released room rates for next year yet. If you have children in tow the Adagio is centrally located and flexible.
