Janice & Carmela - The Sopranos

I've watched The Sopranos about 5x through, and honestly the older I get the more I start to enjoy both Janice and Carmela as older female characters.

They're both barking mad and very unpleasant at times, but I feel like I kind of identify with each of them these days. Anyone else feel it?

Carmela always exasperated and shouting, feeling unappreciated- I get it.

Janice not giving a fuck and just wanting to live her life without having to fit into any of the pre-approved female roles - I get it.

Anyone else? Yes I've had wine.

Janice was always a favourite of mine but I think I do appreciate her more the older I get, she's played so perfectly. I also think Carmela is beautifully drawn with her conflicting feelings but always preferring the money and status and I love Adriana too.

Charmaine Bucco is intriguing as she is one of the few to speak out against organised crime.

And Livia of course - the OG!

I liked Livia! Spiteful and manipulative, so well acted.

I enjoyed the story of how the actress who played Johnny Sack’s wife was cast. She was a legal secretary who attended the casting call with a friend who was auditioning, and someone encouraged her to audition too because they looked at her and thought she was the right fit for the role. Then, when she got the role, she became a fan favourite so the writers wrote the binge eating disorder storyline for her.

Livia has always been one of my faves, I'm often telling my DH to let the lord take me etc 😂

God, I love the Sopranos! I think Ade is my favourite character, she is so complicated. But Meadow is also a great female character, so identifiable.

Yes, Charmaine too. I think you hit a certain age/point i your marriage and suddenly understand them better.

As a young woman I didn't have any sympathy for them. I certainly do now as an older woman with a household and husband.

DH even has the dressing gown.

I like livia too. I like using the line in the New Jersey drawl "I don't like that talk"

I always liked Carmela but I definitely relate to Janice more now. She's underrated .

Janice is fabulous isn't she. I always found her really annoying and wasn't sure why.

I love her now. She doesn't give a flying fuck and doesn't conform to any of the cultural standards she's surrounded by.

My favourite episode is Livia's wake. Outstanding tv.

Especially extremely high Christopher talking about hands and fingerprints.

I'm yet to make peace with meadow after many rewatches. Absolute nightmare child.

But they created the monsters that are AJ and Meadow, you can see how they became such twats.

I love the show and have watched it many times. It’s a masterpiece. I used to live in NJ so can really relate to the locations. Janice survives them all in the end, doesn’t she? Sitting on her deck in the winter with Bobby's kids. Sad, though.

She does, both women are still alive at the end.

As far as we know! We know the black out scene suggests Tony died, maybe the Soprano family were all killed...

I don’t think Carmela is alive…

At the end in the diner? That'd mean AJ and M are probably killed too.

Janice is superb - she's everything Tony should be. And so brilliantly played.

Janice is so infuriating but I love her tenacity!

Jesus, can you imagine? Maybe I that's exactly what we should all do 😂

I don't like Carmela or Janice, can't identify myself with them one bit, my fav character is dr Melphi, the female shrink, she's very detached and not part of the family circus and is the only one who gets to listen to the patriarch at it's most vulnerable, while getting paid for it. She reminds me of me.
