Rent deposit and supposed none payment

So we rented a house through an agency. The landlord then sacked the agency and we pay him directly.
2 issues-
The agency won't release our deposit (landlord happy to nit hold deposit but the agency is named on it when we have requested it back)
The agency is trying to charge us for none payment of rent ( we pay landlord direct now)

Any advice?

Do you have proof of rent paid? Bank transfer , DD or receipt from LL?
Who is the deposit lodged with? You should have a certificate , TDS is the most used I think. Info here https://www.gov.uk/tenancy-deposit-protection
You dispute it with who holds or insures the deposit.
IF you weren’t given a deposit certificate that is a huge mistake by the agent.

Sorry, I’ve not explained that well. The agent might physically have your deposit in their bank a/c but they have to insure it with a tenancy deposit scheme. It’s that deposit scheme company you contact. All the details are on your copy of the certificate and you can check online.

Ah so it's in the deposit scheme but agency has said they won't release it. We have the log in to the gov deposit scheme but it names the agency so I thought they had tp agree..... thanks so much, I'll request it today.
