Could someone kindly explain it as if to a child? I don’t understand what’s going wrong or how it can get better. Thank you.

It will recover, it always does. Then it will tank again, it always does.
Sometimes it takes longer to recover than others depending on what's going on in various places around the world and sometimes it tanks less than others so it's not quite so noticeable.
Rich people never really lose out. Everyone else, especially poor people, never really get back to where they were, so essentially, they are the ones who pay the price.

Thank you, you sound confident. In my ignorance I’ve conceptualised the world economy as a comparatively newish entity with many vulnerabilities but Google suggests this is not necessarily the case!
