Comedy

What is funny these days? I feel like I haven't seen anything actually funny for ages. I like absurdity, like one one foot in the grave. Everything absurd for the last god knows how long comes with a stomach sinking side dish of dread (jam).

Went to see Ross noble in pandemic times and he made me giggle, loved eddie izzard before he disappeared up his own rectum. Lots of "comedy dramas" but where is the straight comedy now?

I know those shows are very old, just giving examples.

The only things I find funny now on TV are Family Guy and South Park - probably because I have a bit of a sick sense of humour anyway, but also because they are not afraid to push boundaries.

You won't get anything on BBC1 - a programme has to tick so many boxes that I doubt comedians will go there. The right to take offence is a very powerful tool at the moment plus I think people take life far too seriously generally now (although not in the situations they should be taking seriously!). Look at Little Britain. That's only 20 years old but the BBC wouldn't dare go there now.

Stand up might be your better bet, but even then the routines will probably be the predictable bash at Farage/Brexit/Trump, ie "safe topics"....nothing original.

Taskmaster on C4 is funny I suppose just for being a bit different and general silliness.

Jason Manford was hilarious live!

As for tv, there's not much great comedy now, too many people get offended I think. Think about Only Fools and Horses, very funny show but most of the jokes wouldn't be allowed now.

Have you watched Schitt's Creek on Netflix?

Story about a rich family who lose everything and end up living in a motel in Schitt's Creek.
