Has anyone been to recently/lives near Formby Point?

bit of an odd ask.

used to go to Formby point a lot when the DC were little - it’s about 90 mins from us.

we were discussing going again next week, but I’m wondering if it’s changed much - last time I went was a decade ago!

is the parking in the NT car park problematic?

are there any red squirrels in the woodland walking areas? Last time we went they’d had a bad attack of pox and we didn’t see any. In prior years we saw loads.

thanks!

Ohh can I follow this post as we are looking at going in a couple of weeks but have never been before.

Parking is a problem usually at weekends and BH’s.
Yes to squirrels, but not lots .

Parking hasn’t changed much from when you were last there, I shouldn’t think. We have no problem parking further down nearer the dunes as long as we get there before 10ish. It’s still a lovely walk, but very, very few red squirrels - maybe partly due to the stupid dog owners who let their dogs run riot through the protected habitat (I say that as a dog owner).

Thanks. I don’t have a dog so no danger there. We used to walk through those lovely woods and the squirrels would be everywhere. Such a shame they are in such decline.

Parking wise I just had a recollection that last time we went we had to queue for a while to park. This would be midweek next week so hopefully not too fraught; but after a 90 min trip I’d rather be prepared!

Oh my parents live very near Formby point! I was last there at Christmas/New Year and it was heaving. No squirrels though 🧐

Jobreveal · 24/08/2023 16:32

Never had a problem parking there but have never managed to see a red squirrel there.

SpamhappyTootsie · 24/08/2023 16:40

It’s such a shame, when I was a child they would run right up to you.
There can be parking bottlenecks because the original drive isn’t wide enough for the volume of and size of modern traffic to the site. Also, people used to being able to park up near the top get confused that that is now nearly all Disabled parking, or they’d rather sit blocking everyone behind for 10 mins waiting for someone to leave rather than park in the big car park and walk a bit further to the coffee stand Hmm
Can you tell I yearn for the simpler times 40 years ago when red squirrels ran round your feet, people knew how to park and the ice cream van was a rare sight Grin

Ah, Formby Point. DH and I still laugh about the time my dad got his car stuck in the sand at the bottom carpark (not to his face though as he was livid 😂)

I've been in the last few years and seen red squirrels, quite up close, but not round your feet.

Like PP's have said it can get quite busy at weekends/bank holidays.

Thank you. Is the correct NT car park well signed? I know it was relocated between us first going and then going again.
