Has anyone with a strong prescription had laser eye surgery?

I was all set to have it done in a couple of days after having two consultations and various scans… being reassured throughout that it was a safe procedure, thousands are done annually etc.

Then I had the consult with the surgeon actually doing the procedure who has told me that I am “very high risk” for complications due to my prescription/astigmatism/not thick corneas.

Now I don’t know if it’s worth the risk. Can anyone reassure me or do I need to forget it and get my money back? It would be life changing for me, but collapsed corneas would also be life changing in a really horrific way!!!

(he also said he might decide on the day its too high risk and I should prepare for it not being able to go ahead so maybe it’ll be taken out of my hands)

If you’re very high risk it isn’t worth doing. I had fairly bad eyes & thin corneas and was told adjustments wouldn’t be possible. 20+ yrs later my eyes are still better than they were but I wear glasses for driving, tv etc. Pre-surgery I couldn’t read my watch.

Thank you.

So you did have the surgery but can’t have any further adjustments now to correct it?

I haven’t asked. I can still see so much better than I could before & don’t mind wearing glasses when I need to. I’m mid 50s and don’t need glasses to read which is fab (age related long sight hasn’t kicked in), I do struggle with the backs of some shampoo bottles but that’s it, hardly an issue.
