I don't like the way edited posts look

OP posts:

Because in the time it takes you to write a second post correcting the first, 15 people will have posted laughing at your typo

Yep it happens a lot on here, I've had it happen to me.

WhiteFire · 24/08/2023 16:37

The change of font is a bit annoying but liveable.

BananaSlug · 24/08/2023 16:37

Anyway pretty much every other site allows you to edit.

Deadringer · 24/08/2023 16:41

Editing isn't working for me.
Oh ok, now it is!

FFS OP we've been begging for years (since 2014 in my case) for an edit function!

Ha - yes, I guess! That just makes it easy to identify the petty, smug, pedantic twats on the thread though.

Years and years?? Really??

I've been on here years and can't say it's exactly been something to get excited about

It makes my posts smaller too

But good to know you can see the original comment

It's not that big a deal, surely. I'd you don't like it, don't edit your posts. 🤷

And they'll look even more smug and pedantic than ever.

It may permanantly change the smug and pedantic personality of the site as it gets harder to spot trivial errors and derail threads completely 😂

WantingToEducate · 25/08/2023 08:48

I can edit some of my posts but not others, it is really irritating 😬

Scalottia · 25/08/2023 09:43

Good lord people will find anything to complain about.

BaaCode · 25/08/2023 10:21

We've kind of had an edit button though via preview post, which enables you to view and edit your post prior to posting.
I don't have the edit function, but I'm not on the app.
The font on the edited posts is quite small in comparison to the normal font.

FadeAwayAndRadiate · 25/08/2023 18:45

@coxesorangepippin You don't like the way the edited posts look? Confused

Tough bananas. Most people are chuffed to bits with the edit function, and welcome it. As a pp said, the word 'edited' at the bottom of the post is no more intrusive than photos, huge links, and gifs!

Suck it up buttercup! Grin

Especially for you @coxesorangepippin 😆 ...

Except that isn't an edit button ... Confused

Interesting - and if you click on it you can still see what it originally said. I guess that gets round the "A says puppies are cute, B says I agree, A edits post to say puppies should be beaten with golf clubs" issue.

They've also updated the talk guidelines so they can ban you if you use the edit function to do that kind of thing.

Thismountain · 09/09/2023 12:56

There are some of us who still can't read edited posts as the font becomes tiny.

MonumentalLentil · 09/09/2023 14:10

I like that I can correct typos, however, discovered today that I have to be really quick, more like 10 seconds than 10 minutes.

Maybe a smaller button would be better, or just the word 'edited' and the option to add a reason as is possible on other sites.

Yes, I really struggle the change of font size and end just not reading the edited posts.

GeraldTheGoodMouse · 10/09/2023 13:15

On the mobile site the font size is the same, where is it smaller?

RunningOnC8H10N4O2 · 10/09/2023 14:47

I like that you can see the edit history. Thats useful!

I'm on the mobile site and it's definitely smaller. Do you mean the on the app it isn't?

Can we disable the edit function? It is it mandatory??
saraclara · 10/09/2023 16:23

Edited posts look normal to me except for the button. But I just use chrome, rather than the app.

I'm on the mobile site. It's not smaller for me. Confused

GeraldTheGoodMouse · 10/09/2023 16:26

Font is same size for edited posts. I'm on the mobile site.

Thismountain · 11/09/2023 17:22

For those of you who don't have a problem, could it be you have not changed your phone settings to a larger font due to visual impairment. Could it be Mumsnet don't mind making edited posts illegible for those of us with visual impairment, considering its been like this for over two weeks now?

Sherwil16 · 11/09/2023 17:30

Why don't you just use 'preview' option before posting?
