Wagner plane crash in Russia

PickledMuffin · 23/08/2023 22:26

Wagner chief Prigozhin listed as passenger on plane that crashed with no survivors, Russian authorities say.

Assassination, accident, Prigozhin staging his death so he can flee?

It all seems fishy to me.

Would be interested to hear peoples thoughts?

Well Putin is all over the press tonight looking v pleased with himself so I don't think it's rocket science to consider there may have been foul play at hand. No great loss though

Cyclingmug · 23/08/2023 22:38

Even my dog wasn't surprised, you're hardly at the vanguard with fishy thoughts

neilyoungismyhero · 23/08/2023 22:38

What a surprise/shock said no one ever...

Cotswoldbee · 23/08/2023 22:44

At least this one didn't "fall" from a high window, that seems to have been the normal way of getting rid for the past year or so.

Hungrycaterpillarsmummy · 23/08/2023 22:45

So is this the guy that had tried a sort of coup and then agreed with Putin he'd go fuck off to Belarus or something? And now he's dead 🤔

TomatoPotato · 23/08/2023 22:53

Thrown out of a window or fake your own death. Hmnnnn🤔

BIossomtoes · 23/08/2023 22:55

He was crazy to even think about getting on a plane.

MrsSkylerWhite · 23/08/2023 22:56

No shit, Sherlock 😁

JustGotToKeepOnKeepingOn · 23/08/2023 22:57

A tragic accident... riiiiight...

RedToothBrush · 23/08/2023 22:57

What is it with this rich and powerful Russians who just have unfortunate ends? It's almost as if someone doesn't like them.

savory · 23/08/2023 23:07

There must be a possibility that it's a deep cover assassination by a non-Russian source maybe the Ukrainians with help from the US or others. Unless Russia officially admits it then we will probably never know. Both sides would have reason to cover such a thing up.

Nah. If it walks like a duck and quacks like a duck …….

Outside chance, I know, but Russia wouldn't want to admit it, and it would be a message from Ukraine/US we can take down a high value plane on your own territory. Stranger things have happened in history.

MrsTerryPratchett · 23/08/2023 23:16

Cover up or assassination? What it definitely isn't is an accident.

mummybear247 · 23/08/2023 23:19

Another one bites the dust rot in hell

Hanones · 23/08/2023 23:22

I was never convinced by the coup story. Now he's apparently dead (although there's reportedly a second plane that landed fine) and Putin looks like he's quashed the rebellion, just at the point where he needed a bit of good publicity. Chinny reckon.

Badbudgeter · 23/08/2023 23:52

I wonder if he was on the plane atall. I thing the odds of him being in a cell somewhere being tortured aren't awful. I mean Putin does have a flair for dramatic public killings but I think he'd enjoy exacting some revenge before he finishes him off. He's (was) the head of a mercenary group that killed and tortured people. Not exactly someone I'd have much sympathy for no matter how he dies.

Christopher "Russia Gate / Trump golden showers dossier" ex MI6 agent Steele speculates someone in elite circles may have been behind the operation but not necessarily Putin.

Russia jet crash: 'We absolutely saw this coming' - former MI6 officer

The only surprise is that it took 2 months. He was never going to enjoy retirement.

HaveYouHeardOfARoadAtlas · 24/08/2023 06:49

I’m assuming Russia shot it down. Him faking his own death hadn’t crossed my mind but it’s possible I guess.

Anothernamethesamegame · 24/08/2023 06:53

Not surprised in the slightest.
Not bothered by him as a person as I’m sure he and his army did terrible things. However I do wish he had kept marching to Moscow and killed Putin, not sure what else can taken Putin out.

Only thing is, he surely knew Putin would be after him and he would be a target. Putin would never let an attempted march on Moscow go would he? So I think it’s possible he faked his own death but also possible Russia targeted him.

PickledMuffin · 24/08/2023 22:29

Putin struggled very much to keep a straight face yesterday when he offered his condolences and praised the man. You rarely see him so joyful.

MNetcurtains · 25/08/2023 08:44

It occurred to me that he may have faked his own death, but unless he turns up somewhere in one of his ridiculous disguises, you'd have to assume he was on the plane. Bit of a departure from Putin's usual MO of defenestration or dodgy tea though.
