Can you withdraw cash if needed? Will an app notify me of payments and outstanding balance etc?

Are they accepted anywhere?

We used Fair Fx card in US years ago and it was great, just topped it up by transferring money over and you could use it anywhere as it was a mastercard

We used our Nationwide Credit Cards, they don't have any extra fees. It's a "Member's card", we have a current account and savings with them.

It's a Visa one and we didn't have any issues, just came back last week.

DD's 11-17 year debit card also comes without fees for using in the US.

I used Revolut this summer in the US. it is essentially a cash card - i transfer money into it in pounds from my main bank account. You can then set up/exchange into a separate US dollar account on the Revolut app on phone - fees applied at point of exchange. V easy to use - my Revolut card (Visa) linked to Gpay so paid by phone everywhere, but could use card directly if preferred (pin or tap as per UK)

We used the Post Office travel card last summer. Super easy to use. Worked just like a normal debit card - contactless payments, cash machine, online. The app is very simple. You load money via your debit card and convert it to the currency you need. When you get home, you convert anything left over back to pounds and use it here the same.

HSBC have similar. Works really well, no extra fees etc. and just transfer from yr current a/c to the global money account. You can have loads of different currencies too

Check money saving expert website. He's done a section on what cards to use abroad. We opened a Chase account and I still use it now. Very impressed with it!
