Seasons 1-2 yes
After that not so much

Not to spoil and in a way I can understand it but omg how they dispatched bro**

Ragwort · 23/08/2023 22:21

Another great series that I don't often hear mentioned is The Americans ... fantastic viewing.

ThinkingAgainAndAgain · 23/08/2023 22:22

It is brilliant. I watched it every Sunday night on channel 4, before binge-watching was possible. Claire Danes is fantastic in it, and I adored Damien Lewis in it too.

That's one I've not seen

MotherOfGodWeeFella · 23/08/2023 22:24

Homeland is great - earlier series better than the later ones, but well worth watching. We watched it in lockdown.

Have you seen Suits? That's really good too.

If you have Amazon Prime, The Man in the High Castle is excellent. A bit depressing in places, but then it features a dystopian world after the Nazis and the Japanese win the second world war.

We loved that too. 80s espionage in suburban America.

Hawkins009 · 23/08/2023 22:25

For surveillance and intelligence, the show person of interest is quite good

StillWantingADog · 23/08/2023 22:26

Oh gosh yes. But it peaks in series 2/3 and then dwindles away

I LOVED it but never made it to the last season.

Most excellent, very cold war themes to the era

Agreed, ended there for me. Didn't finish Season 3 after the incident.

Unfortunately because season 1 was incredible, season 2 dropped off a bit and I just didn't want to waste any more time with season 3.

And John Boy Walton is in it, plus a host of other TV actors you'll recognise, despite the wigs.

Justcallmebebes · 23/08/2023 22:31

Brilliant, apart from series 2. That was shit

hattie43 · 24/08/2023 04:40

@ididntthough

Or Criminal Minds . Wonderful actor

Girlwithapple · 24/08/2023 08:13

Loved Homeland initially but gave up watching part way through season 3.

Is that the programme with the dude that looked like Harold Shipman?

That’s Mandy Patinkin, Tony winning Broadway legend.

Homeland is amazing!

PurpleFlower1983 · 24/08/2023 08:17

Agree the end should have been the big thing that happened though!

Ooh, I was coming on to say this. Probably my all-time favourite series. Script is amazing and characters are so well-developed. And it's just as much about the emotional relationships as it is the espionage. I think its season finale is critically reviewed as one of the best ever.

Gnomegarden32 · 24/08/2023 09:24

Mandy Patinkin is amazing in it. I wish they’d given Saul a spin off series!

AMessageToYouRuby · 24/08/2023 09:36

Season 3 is terrible, if you can persevere through do, but if not just skip it. Season 4 is maybe my favourite ever, really, really good and basically unrelated to S3. It all sort of starts again somewhere new in S4 so if you aren't enjoying 3, watch a recap of it at beginning S4 and move on.

ididntthough · 23/08/2023 22:18

Bit of a crass remark about the wonderful Mandy Patinkin… never heard of the Princess Bride? Or Yentl? Nope? Ok then…

Yes, and he created the role of George in ‘Sunday in the Park with George’ and is an unspeakable Sondheim genius!

I liked Homeland, OP. Yes, it does lean a bit on cliché (troubled CIA genius with a homemade wall of info/connection/obsession, wise mentor etc), but the cast is first class, the initial premise is great, and even after that plot line has played out by the end of the first three seasons, it has a later flowering with a largely different core of characters. That said, I didn’t watch the final season.

Yes! I thought ‘Better Call Saul’ featured Saul Berenson, and was disgusted to discover it was something to do with Breaking Bad…

Gnomegarden32 · 24/08/2023 10:13

@SecondhandSalute 😂

canidot · 24/08/2023 11:07

@SecondhandSalute tbf, Better Call Saul was amazing, much better than BB.

I’ve never seen BB, which sounds dull to me (or maybe I’m just tired of people telling me how good it was. I have serious series commitment issues, and the idea of seven seasons of something just makes me wilt in advance. Which is odd because a really long novel is my idea of heaven…)

But as Better Call Saul is clearly not a drama about Stephen Sondheim trying to winkle Mandy Parinkin away from playing Saul Berenson to star in a revival of A Little Night Music on Broadway, it is not for me… 😀

NashvilleQueen · 24/08/2023 11:15

Season 1 is amazing
Season 2 is great
Season 3 is shit
Season 4 is brilliant

Can't remember if I've seen all of any of the other seasons. It lost its way a bit for me.
