Anyone successfully learnt a second language as an adult, without spending time living in that country? How did you do it?

Free Openlearn course.
Duolingo.
Quizlet.
Listening to radio stations... mainly kids stuff.. in the language of choice.
Good Luck.

I’m trying to learn German via Duolingo.
I also try listening to German language stuff.

What's your definition of "successfully"? Be able to converse easily with a native speaker? Or just stumble through foreign language classes for a few years?

I did a two week summer school language course, strange though to be at university in my 40s even for two weeks.

@LlynTegid wow good for you! What level of proficiency did you reach after that?
