DS going on 1st trip abroad should he apply for a EHIC or UK GHIC card?

He has travel insurance I remember years ago being advised to get a European Health Card - should he still do this?

The EHIC doesn't exist any more, it's a GHIC, and yes, he needs it.

He's just done it online for the GHIC - he goes Sunday though so hoping they confirm/process by email - he got the application number incase

He's just had an email to say approved card will be sent out but can still get cover abroad if card doesnt come in time

Mine came really quickly (last week), but yes, he's covered anyway.

Just remember this isn't in place of travel insurance. All the GHIC does is allow you to get access to emergency state healthcare at the same cost as a resident.

Yes he is doing travel insurance now....insuring up to the hills - 1st lads holiday abroad what could possibly go wrong!!!

You just need the number, not the card. I checked, having done a trip with 40 kids recently.
