How many times do you go abroad a year?

We try and go away twice a year
Avoiding peek /expensive times
We went away last November and March this year and booked for November this year ...only thing is we just go to Canary Islands so I'm getting a bit bored of it.
Looking at booking somewhere for end of April next year
Any recommendations where will be nice?
I don't mean red hot just a nice 20-23 degrees would be lovely

Once a year abroad, but have a few other UK weekend breaks throughout the year. This year I took my DD to Spain with my sister (DH stayed at home) but next year we are going to a fancy pants AI in Corfu in May.

Depends where you want to go, when and your budget really for suggestions.

I'm very lucky and retired and go away with my sister abroad about 6 times a year ( 6 nights) we do Lanzarote and Feuterventura for winter sun( starting in March then in November).May is great for Greek Islands ( we go to Corfu and it hit 30 and the pool was like a bath) we have also been to Cyprus in June.. back to Lanzarote in July.. and booked Turkey..( we go in three weeks) but we are older and book villas and quiet places and always hire a car because besides sunbathing and being in the pool we like drives out and to explore.
We SC for breakfast n lunch .. and eat out on an evening. We don't do excursions.. but exploring in the car is a big part of our hols.( We avoid August and the school hols).

Twice. Usually May and July but next year will be July and October. Tied to school holidays due to DD.

April still pretty sketchy around the western med, maybe Cyprus would be a good option?

I live in the middle east, we've already had 3 staycations this year, a short break in Oman, 2 weeks in the UK and we go to Thailand in November. We have one 'big' holiday and the rest are local but take advantage of the location and climate. UK trips are usually functional and family-related.

Since last May I've been abroad 4 times and a long weekend in London. Very unusual circumstances and we normally only go once a year for our big family holiday (I say big, it's about as budget as you can get for an abroad holiday).

Back to once a year from now on (though a weekend in Spanish city was cheaper than the weekend in London which really did make me think...)

Butritobaby · 23/08/2023 11:17

4-5, although this year has been more since I’ve been on maternity leave since Jan so more chance to travel

mindutopia · 23/08/2023 11:20

Normally, I go about once, maybe twice a year as a holiday (maybe another time or two for work), but haven't been since pre-COVID. We don't usually take holidays abroad as a family as quite expensive relative to our holidays in the UK.

I'm going to Spain next month for a walking holiday (not with the family though), so no help. If I was taking a family holiday abroad, it would be a city break rather than package holiday/beach one. Barcelona, Lisbon, Berlin, Greek islands, etc. so probably not what you're after.

Madeira looks lovely

LostThestral · 23/08/2023 11:22

twice - we like to do a city break & a beach holiday

SantaBarbaraMonica · 23/08/2023 11:25

Family ski trip, family summer holiday, couple trip are our 3 normal ones but add to that the odd wedding or weekend trip to London (from Ire) for a meet up or event. And the odd girls trip abroad or husband going away for a hobby. We travel a lot these recent years now our babies are kids.

rookiemere · 23/08/2023 11:26

We went to Porto in April and had lovely weather- but that may not be the norm.
Madeira might be a good option, cheaper than the Canaries out of main season.

cherryassam · 23/08/2023 11:31

We’re very unusual compared to the norm as we both work in travel, but it’s an unusual month if I’ve not left the UK.

Last year I did 19 trips abroad ranging in length from one night to 3 weeks. I also do a lot of travel in the UK.

DH did 21 trips abroad (6 were together) ranging in length from one night to 2 weeks.

April -

  • Cyprus
  • Crete
  • Andalucia (Seville, Malaga, Granada, Costa de La Luz)
  • Morocco
  • Madeira
  • Malta
