Maggots - is that it?

I was away for the weekend so I'm blaming young adult DC and their inability to clear plates and other food away when they've finished eating. They do do it, but not straight away! even though it was really the food waste bin

Anyway, yesterday evening my counter tops were crawling with maggots. The bins have gone out, I've squashed the maggots I've found and flushed them down the loo, scrubbed and bleached the tops, bins and the sink, poured lots of boiling water down the sink.

Despite this, when I went back into the kitchen before bed, there were half a dozen more. This morning I've just found one. Does that mean it's over?

Yes - there is a carcass somewhere though, the maggots have just finished feeding on it

I don't think it's a carcass as such, just the food in the food waste bin (probably some meat).

Maggots after two days away? I works have thought they’d only appear after a week or so.

I went away on Friday and they appeared Tuesday afternoon, but yes probably it was the bin that hadn't been emptied rather than the plates.

might they be coming up from the sink?

Maybe, that why I put lots of bleach and boiling water down.
