Unexpected large child tax credit payment

Anyone else? Woke up this morning to almost three times my monthly payment amount in my account. All that is showing on the HMRC app is my usual payments, the next of which is due next Wednesday. I don't want to get excited, how can I check if it's an error?

Don't spend it. If it's an accidental overpayment they will want it back.

Can I just call them? Was hoping others had had same and was genuine.

If you did your renewal, it will be most likely them correcting an underpayment from last tax year, but worth checking anyway!

Fingers crossed it's this 😁

Do you have the app? You can check payments on there and it will tell you what it’s for.

Xrays · 23/08/2023 08:28

Sorry ignore my post. I didn’t see you had checked the app!

I had this a few years ago and it was an underpayment from the previous year being paid. Hopefully yours is the same x

I’ve been waiting for my child disability backpayment from tax credits they are taking forever hope it’s me soon, hope it’s all ok op and nothing you need to pay back it’s always a worry with them

Underpayment from last year! It's like Christmas. That's all the back to school stuff sorted and a nice little cushion heading in to the rest of the year. Beyond delighted

Ah I love it when these things happen!

Great news!

Just be aware if you are one of the TC claimants being migrated to UC (you would’ve had a letter) your payment will need to last you about 5 weeks until UC first payment.
