Please help me remember this kids TV show from the 80s

It was about 2 characters - I think a boy and girl but they looked almost identical. They weren’t human ..looked a bit monkey like with longish hair . I think they lived underground but wore clothes. Im sorry thats not much to go on but its driving me mad
