Work photos

My workplace uses Teams and our internal directory heavily, alongside LinkedIn. There is an expectation that you upload a photo of yourself as a display photo.

I am in a senior role where it’s not the done deal to upload a generic photo of yourself like on an evening/occasion out. It’s either a purpose-taken LinkedIn style headshot taken in 4k against a grey backdrop, or the CEOs posting a smiley selfie to look “approachable”. I’m not senior enough to post a selfie imo, so I just wanted advice on how to take a decent photo and what to avoid.

I toyed with the idea of a smiley photo and editing the background out, but the background editing app I tried looked really obvious. Also I’m not very photogenic!

Can you stand in front of a white wall, and think passport photo with a smile?

For the photogenic thing, stand up straight, turn slightly side on but with your face facing the camera. Look into the lens. Keep your chin up, then ever so slightly down. Shoulders back a bit and keep your tongue pressed against the roof of your mouth.
