Normal for nursery to charge £30 before even viewing?

I posted earlier about difficulties we are having with our child's current nursery and decided to explore other local nurseries. (First child so little experience of this).

I emailed a few nurseries to ask if I could look around. Two came back with suggested visit times, and the 3rd, (a Montessori) said I needed to pay a fee to register and would then be invited to view. I thought they had misunderstood what I was asking and clarified that I was in no way decided on a new nursery yet but was interested in looking around in order to explore our options. However they came back and have insisted in a payment and full registration form before I can look around. They say they are a charity and small business so this is necessary for all prospective parents. Is this normal?

No, that’s not normal at all!

Some places ask for the form but I’ve never heard of a fee to view

We had to pay a registration fee to apply for a place at a Montessori, but it didn't need to be paid before viewing and we were told we would definitely get a place.
