Not sure if this has been done before (or done to death even), so apologies if so!

A thread to ask those burning questions and mundane ponderings. Anyone can ask or answer anything. Please no making things up though as that will spoil the fun!

I'll go first... Vegans. I completely understand the ethics of not eating and using animal produce that results in the harm or death of animals. I understand in particular the cruelty of the dairy industry. However, I am genuinely curious as to what the ethical issue is with free range eggs. For example, if someone raised hen's as pets, on their land, fed them good food etc. Then surely the unfertilised eggs laid are nothing more than a waste product and there is no cruelty involved? (I am genuinely curious and not trying to be inflammatory. I know Google exists but first hand experience and accounts are much more interesting).

Thank you and feel free to add your own!

How does your bladder work? I can sleep all night and be desperate to have a wee when I wake up, then an hour later have a very full bladder again but not have eaten/drunk anything in the meantime. I don’t seem to fill my bladder again so quickly in the same way through the rest of the day.

From google

"How many times is normal to urinate in the night?
Normally, the amount of urine your body produces decreases at night. This allows most people to sleep 6 to 8 hours without having to urinate. Some people wake up from sleep more often to urinate during the night. This can disrupt sleep cycles."

I'm guessing the factory slows at night then in the day it's full steam so to speak

They tend to be a bit on the short side so appreciate being picked up so they can see further. It's instinctive behavior from the times when humans had to watch out for tyranosauruses sneaking up on them.

I think they are just trying to be as awkward as possible to train you for the next 20 years in the hope of wearing you down as quickly as possible to heed to their every whim.

”Full steam” 🤣

In that case, I do wish the factory could stay closed a little longer or not get to work so fast in the morning as it does ruin an opportunity for a longer lie-in.

Why do people I think are intelligent believe in god/Allah etc? Given it's all based on stories written by men centuries ago

I think intelligent people are often more likely to search for spiritual meaning or philosophy. Personally I think there are roughly two types of religious people, those that go blindly along with it because they don't stop to think otherwise and those that have a deep sense of the spiritual and are searching for answers / guidance. The second category would be the intellectual type. No basis for this at all, only my opinion. I'm quite envious of religious people actually, it must be very comforting and fulfilling.

That's understandable, it's a pickle at times.

I guess also it's having something to believe in too, that helps give reason to the universe.

Do surgeons ever feel squeamish?

I think if be ok once the person was cut open but I don't think I could do the initial slice.

NumberFortyNorhamGardens · 26/08/2023 17:32

Do surgeons ever feel squeamish?

They are probably less likely to than the average person (decades of training and practice will harden one) but interestingly they are also more likely to score highly on psychopathic traits. I imagine the ability to slice someone open while demonstrating a sympathetic bedside demeanour is a very weird combination indeed.

With regards to mcrobbie, is the possibility of divorce on the cards, or is it a case of they have many years planned together ?

ErrolTheDragon · 27/08/2023 17:18

Is 'mcrobbie' someone we're meant to know about?Confused I've got absolutely no idea who this refers to and my search engine doesn't seem to know either.
