Hi I'm hoping someone can help! I've had a strange bump appear round my nose piercing - has anyone had this? I've searched threads and it seems some people get keloids and others it just requires being left alone.

I've contacted my doctor and the earliest routine appointment is 26th October Confused

So would appreciate any help advice - photo below!

Thank you thank you thank you

No need to go to the doctors. It's very common, especially in nose piercings. I bought Recuren Plus Piercing aftercare spray and it cleared it up within the week.

Is it a granuloma? Quite normal after a piercing. Can turn up if you've irritated it or used inferior metal piercings.

weightsandwine · 22/08/2023 10:47

Ohh that I'd awesome to know! I wonder if I got spooked by Google searching it haha

I'll have a look for it now. I know there are worse things in the world but I'm so self conscious about it !

What's a granuloma? Not heard of that

I guess I was worried because I've had the piercing over 12 months so didn't think it was to do with the healing process...

I had this with mine, it was a nightmare tbh.
I would recommended going back to see your piercer and getting some specialist cleaning solution. Also make sure you keep it really dry and don’t mess with it!

Mine never healed properly until I changed the jewellery to a hypoallergenic one after a year of trying

I had this and in the end I just removed the piercing. The bump went away and it healed. I just don’t think I heal well.

monicaandchandler · 22/08/2023 11:00

I had this all the time until I put a ring in

I think that's half my problem, I clean it every day I thought I was doing the right thing!

Yes it's quite normal keep in clean with salt solution inside the nose and out and try not to touch it . It will soon go 🙂

Glitterb · 22/08/2023 11:18

@weightsandwine I would leave it alone and done mess with it
Maybe look at Solace Jewellery online, I ended up getting one as a last attempt before taking it out and it has completely healed now

I had this exact same probelm. And its taken me months to get mine to go down.

Only thing that has helped me, had my stud changed to a thread less flat back titanium bar . Lump did reduce about 50% after having changed but didnt go completely.

Did warm compresses didnt really help in my opinion.

Only thing that is helping me at the moment is keeping the bump completely dry. I don't get it wet in the shower , I put a plaster over it when showering, no warm compresses, as that creates moisture no cleaning solutions. And I'm just leaving it alone and not touching it. My bump is so small now that other people cant notice it. I can only see it If I'm looking in a magnified makeup mirror.

Might now work for you but it's working for me 😊

I had no issues with mine but my friend had a big lump of inflamed/scar tissue which gradually subsided. I think just try to leave it alone - you can try disinfectant, mild salt solution, extra cleaning solution as well if you want. Nose piercings take aaaages to heal.

SingingSands · 30/11/2023 19:54

My DD has those on her four ear piercings but she'll not do anything about it. She's had them for years now. I think it's a type of granuloma.

Does it really help to switch to hypoallergenic? She won't listen to me, whatever I suggest 🙄

CeciledeVolangesdeNouveau · 30/11/2023 23:27

@SingingSands i don’t know for sure, but based on my existing medical knowledge (university level) I think the lumps are caused by irritation/inflammation which cause the body to build up scar tissue as a defense - scar tissue has different blood supple etc to normal tissue and is more inert. I’m not sure she needs to use exclusively hypoallergenic earrings but maybe wearing her blanks (my first pair were surgical steel, I’ve currently had gold ones in continuously for months, and they have the added bonus of keeping the holes open and “clicking” into place securely) and then switching them out for slightly more decorative ones for short periods would help?
I actually don’t know how accumulations of scar tissue are treated in humans but in animals they generally just get cut off if they keep getting bigger. If they don’t recede all the way she’s probably stuck with them so may as well keep the earrings. I’ve got several lesions in my nose, one of which is from a repeat piercing in the same spot, but nose piercings are much more traumatic and slow to heal that ear piercings because of the thicker layer of cartilage.
