Hi,

long story short my DD is starting at a resource base in a mainstream school in sept, the pannel decided she needed a specialist school but there are no places - we are appealing but in the meantime we are making changes to sections b and f.

They said nursery can write a report that we can reflect in section F - i was just wondering what kind of things we could get in that report to help? The only example they gave was ‘DD will need her one to one to meet her at the door daily as she does at nursery’

any help or advice is so so so appreciated

It depends what she needs to enable her to access the curriculum.

Your example is specific and practical and is presumably intended to help her settle in the morning. What other specific things does she need?

What you want to avoid is the non specific ‘will need access to’ or ‘will need support with’, because they are open to interpretation.

Are you re-writing Section B&F to support needing the SS rather then the RB?

If that is the case, then you need to focus on what the SS can offer which DD needs that the RB can't. This may be access to particular facilities or therapies. Could be to do with the size and safety of the environment. Could be the curriculum itself e.g. need for sensory based curriculum.

e.g. Section B: DD is pre-verbal and reliant on picture symbols to communicate.
Section F: Must be taught by staff trained and experienced using PECS to support early communication. (Assuming SS uses PECS and RB doesn't etc).

There is no point writing in anything the RB can offer if the only point is to get placement moved to SS.
