Yorkshire tea tasting funny

We've been buying Yorkshire tea for years. Suddenly I'm finishing it tasting really weird and can't drink it. Have they changed the recipe or something?

Is it possible that you could be pregnant?

DustyLee123 · 22/08/2023 06:23

What do the other people in your house say ?

tobi21 · 22/08/2023 06:23

I also noticed that Yorkshire tea has changed a bit!! Doesn't seem to brew anywhere near as strong

Pregnant

If you live in a hard water area you might need to descale the kettle. Our tea starts to taste funny if limescale has built up.

AlexandraJJ · 22/08/2023 06:37

I agree. It doesn’t taste the same nor is as strong. Yorkshire Tea and Yorkshire Gold

AlmostTotallyFake · 22/08/2023 07:33

Last time I went off my tea I was pregnant. One of the first signs for me....

OnionBhajis · 22/08/2023 07:35

Main sign for me I was pregnant!

(Or covid?!)

Whataretheodds · 22/08/2023 07:35

Pregnant
Kettle needs to be descaled/water hasn't been freshly boiled
Milk is different/on the turn
Soapy suds on the mug, someone hasn't rinsed.
Someone's double-dipped the teaspoon in coffee then tea.

Sourisblanche · 22/08/2023 07:37

I found that recently with Twinnings English breakfast Tea. Taste is not quite so nice. Definitely not pregnant!

MissPettigrewIsWFH · 22/08/2023 07:38

I bloody well hope it isn't pregnancy...!

DH said he thought it tasted a but weird a fortnight ago but I thought he was talking rubbish.

I'll try the descaling, we are in a hard water area. But it just seems to have happened overnight as if this batch is different.

If you have a dishwasher have you been using different detergent recently? Ime some of them have stronger perfumes and can taint the crockery, etc.

Beaverbridge · 22/08/2023 07:46

No I agree with you. OH bought some recently and I thought it tasted like dirt. Or how I thought dirt would taste. They were massively reduced in price.

MonumentalLentil · 22/08/2023 08:04

Yorkshire Gold tastes bitter to me now. Still looks the same colour after soaking the bag but takes longer to develop the colour and tastes different.

I always descale the kettle if my tea isn't right, and use a water filter, but have bought some tea that I haven't tried before and it isn't bitter. Neither is Barrys, although bought that a while ago as I had a batch of Yorkshire that was weak and tasted like cardboard.

I assume it is something to do with what is available when they manufacture it as it can vary from one batch to another, sometimes it is really not up to standard.

I check the code on the box if it seems to be a whole batch, tended to buy in bulk but have stopped now as I don't want 6 or more boxes of something that tastes like earwax. When it is good it is perfect, but too inconsistant in quality recently and is more like the Tetley and PG stuff that I avoid.

WildFlowerBees · 22/08/2023 08:16

Same for us dh and I both have said it doesn't taste the same, has an odd twang to it. What have they done to it?!

I use a Brita filter, and I can tell straight away when it needs changing.

My tea has an unmistakable and odd aftertaste.

StaffShortages · 22/08/2023 08:27

I used to hate Yorkshire tea. I thought it used to have an unpleasant aftertaste but I was in a B&B last week which used Yorkshire tea and I actually enjoyed it this time so perhaps it has changed, though for me it's an improvement.

Ireallywantsomechips · 22/08/2023 08:40

My mum hates Yorkshire tea at my house says it tastes awful. We have hard water but she has a water softener. Not sure if that makes the world of difference but I also think my kettle massively needs descaling.

Personally it all tastes the same to me!

MrsDanversGlidesAgain · 22/08/2023 08:48

Taste has changed - tastes muddy to me. Switched to Dorset Tea instead (and def NOT pregnant!)

iamwhatiam23 · 22/08/2023 08:49

I have found that i suddenly prefer the decaf to the gold teabags. The decaf taste like " proper"tea!

I found this and thought it was their compostable teabags, have Yorkshire changed their teabags recently?

Proudmum17 · 22/08/2023 08:57

Completely agree. It tastes more 'tanniny' recently. Not nice.

MrsDanversGlidesAgain · 22/08/2023 08:58

Also needed longer to brew to get the required strength.

golddustwomen · 22/08/2023 09:07

I completely agree op!

BernardsarenotalwaysSaints · 22/08/2023 09:12

DH found this earlier this year after a couple of weeks working away (I don't drink tea). I did wonder if it was because he'd come back to our hard water area from somewhere with softer water. We switched to PG for a while. I've just switched back to Yorkshire as it's been on offer & he said it tastes normal again now so it. I wonder if it's certain batches?
