At what age did you let your DC read your books?

Nothing spectacular, just standard library books. My 11yo has finished all of hers, and we have a week to go on hols so I have just given her one of mine. Chick lit/ summer read type book - easy reading and no sex in it (makes a change). I guess it is in some way grown up, but so far she is immersed.

I read Agatha Christies when I was a young teenager

My 10 yr old has just read the first Ladies detective club by McCall smith. She is quite hard to find books for as she has a high reading ability but a very low threshold for anything scary, spooky, too modern or perilous!

i was going to say Agatha Christies. My 13 year old DS has started reading Death on the Nile and the Chrysalids by John Wyndham which was my favourite at that age.

Exciting, challenging yet without the risk of too many sexual themes (on the whole). Plus gives a great grounding in modern literature as well as being enormously entertaining.

I read Stephen king and James Herbert at that age, books weren't restricted. Riders and lace in year 7 were the most popular books 😂

Mine also started with Agatha Christie and Penguin classics. Dickens, that kind of thing.

DD has been reading DH's books (mainly fantasy) since she was about 11 or 12, they both like similar genres, she doesn't like the things I read (mainly historical or detective novels). I was reading my Dad's books from about that age too.

I love these books. But one of them I can't remember which has quite a graphic discription of sexual assault
