Want to start by saying I realise I am overthinking and I know nobody can give a definitive answer. But I do need to type this out to get it out my head.

We have lived in our house the past 13 years. In that time 4 different families have lived in the house next door (we're in a pretty standard English semi detached house).
Three of them have been difficult in different ways.
The first family were really lovely and a joy to live next door to. The second were drug dealers and frankly dangerous but thankfully only stayed for 6 months before moving on.
The third were horrible. Loud, violent (with each other- not with us), partied most nights and then left without telling anyone. They left the house in a horrid state.
Fourth family have actually been nice but they are also incredibly loud to live next door to. They have frequently done DIY until well past midnight, have big parties that last until 4/5am (especially when Liverpool are playing!) and their telly is always super loud. BUT other than that they've been friendly, helpful, kind and decent.
They have just sold the house and now I'm worrying about who is going to move in now. I really hope they're not going to be another noisy, party household. I just want someone peaceful who doesn't hammer and drill to all hours etc. But I'm conscious people these days seem to buy houses then tear out everything in them to start everything new which seems mad.
I know it prob sounds silly. I am autistic though so this is why it's worrying me and why the noise bothers me.
I get that people are allowed to live their lives etc, but it would be nice if for once I got to live mine without having to tolerate loudness.
Anyway, no reply needed really but thanku for letting me get that out!

After putting up with all that noise it’s not surprising you are worrying about who you will have next.
I’ve lived next to noisy people just twice, it severely affected my wellbeing.
I hope the next neighbours are quiet and considerate for you- good luck!

I understand you totally. I always get a bit nervous about what any new neighbours might be like.

LlynTegid · 21/08/2023 16:28

Don't tolerate loudness from day one. Report to the council if your new neighbours are. Hopefully this will not be the case.

Big thanku for all of you being understanding. I like to stay cordial with neighbours if I can but yes it would be nice to have peace for the first time in a really long time. Here's hoping!

Statistically, it's probably your turn to be lucky now. If your next set of neighbours turn out to be noisy, it's probably best to have a polite word with them sooner rather than later. Some people genuinely don't realise how much noise they generate.

Hi I totally get this my husband is on the s

Hi, completely understand your worries…I value a quiet environment above everything.

Unlike PP I wouldn’t report to council if there was noise straight off…build a relationship first and discuss if you are bothered. If you take the trouble to be friendly there’s a good chance they will be considerate even if they have noisy activities. I did this with new neighbours next door and they are super considerate, which means so much, even though there is noise sometimes.

but here’s hoping the need won’t arise! Hoping you’ll get lovely quiet neighbours this time!

Hope your next lot of neighbours are nice and quiet. Would you consider moving to detached if you could, it's much quieter. 🤞🤞

munchmagic · 13/11/2023 18:39

Thanks for all the replies. Still waiting on new people moving in but the previous people have now left so it's quiet for a little bit at least. @Elle200 I would love to have a detached but not in a position to move at the moment. It is my goal though.
