Could Anyone Help - which Mainline Station in London

I class myself as reasonably intelligent but when it comes to journey planning in London it's as though my intelligence leaves me.

I'm meeting friends tomorrow at a restaurant in Great Eastern Street, EC2A (Gloria's if anyone knows it). I am coming from Kent and would usually come into Charing Cross but I think it would be better to use the other line and come into St Pancras or even Stratford. I don't like the underground so would prefer to get a taxi from the station to the restaurant. Could anyone advise please. I've tried googling but honestly I've lost the plot now.

Go to Cannon Street and walk up about 20 mins.
Alternatively London Bridge and walk 25 mins or bus towards Old Street and get off around Moorgate.

Northerndreamer · 21/08/2023 14:18

Which part of Kent? Can you get to Abbey Wood then take the Elizabeth Line to Liverpool Street? It's a short walk from there.

twilightcafe · 21/08/2023 14:22

Train to Stratford, overground to Liverpool Street (10 min journey max), then cab or walk to the restaurant.

Rosecoffeecup · 21/08/2023 14:23

Whereabouts in Kent are you coming from? Are there also options to Cannon Street? Some lines go to both

Or if youre on a HS1 route, you could change at Stratford for Central or Elizabeth Line to Liverpool Street

Rosecoffeecup · 21/08/2023 14:24

Also Citymapper app will tell you the quickest route and any other options

UndercoverCop · 21/08/2023 14:25

Oooh I love Gloria's need to know where you're travelling from to say which route would be best, also how much walking are you happy to do? I prefer to walk in central London

Merapi · 21/08/2023 14:26

Another alternative would be to go to Stratford and get a taxi from there.

GloomySkies · 21/08/2023 14:27

Get off at London Bridge if your train stops there, 47 bus practically to the door or northern line to.Old Street and a very short walk

GloomySkies · 21/08/2023 14:29

Oh I just saw you don't like the underground. Yes 47 bus from London Bridge is quick (and far cheaper than a taxi) if your train stops there already.

LlynTegid · 21/08/2023 14:29

I'd do the walk from Cannon Street myself.

Sssudio · 21/08/2023 14:29

Where in Kent? Can you get a Thameslink train or train to London Bridge and then bus

TheFormidableMrsC · 21/08/2023 14:29

If you can get to Liverpool St, it's a short walk from there.

TheFormidableMrsC · 21/08/2023 14:30

Or Old St

viques · 21/08/2023 14:31

If you don’t like tubes you could get a 388 bus from Stratford Bus Station, walk of about seven minutes at the other end. Check with TFL.

enchantedsquirrelwood · 21/08/2023 14:32

I would walk from London Bridge or Cannon Street.
I've walked from Waterloo to places nearby.

viques · 21/08/2023 14:34

And I have been to Gloria’s, was roundly defeated by their meringue pudding! Should have copied my friends pudding choice which was probably a chocolate something, she is a whizz at choosing the best pudding. Have you been there before? It is quite hard to spot because it is covered in greenery and the door isn’t immediately obvious.

HonoriaLucastaDelagardie · 21/08/2023 14:35

Agree London Bridge and walk or 47 bus if your trains go there. Pleasant straightforward walk.

No need to faff about with taxis from Stratford Intl.

Wishiwasatailor · 21/08/2023 14:37

Don’t know about the arriving into London but when you are in London the citymapper app is great with every travel option available

Wow so many replies, thank you.

Yes Cannon Street would be easy for me. For those who asked I am coming from Ashford or Headcorn.

Oooh is Gloria's good? I'm really looking forward to it.

I'm coming from Ashford or Headcorn. I would normally be happy to walk for miles but I'm wearing heels so I will probably get a cab!

UndercoverCop · 21/08/2023 14:47

In heels I'd go to London bridge then the 47 bus!
Enjoy it, I have had a couple of lovely evenings there

Icequeen01 · 21/08/2023 17:42

Thank you all so, so much. I've decided I am going to go from London Bridge and be lazy (and save my feet in the process!) and get a cab from there to Gloria's.

I'm really looking forward to the lunch and so nice to hear some of you have eaten there and enjoyed it.

Thank you again for all your help, I so appreciate it.

Also thank you to the posters who recommended Citymapper. This will really help me when I come up to London for a day out. I usually end up managing to walk around in circles. I honestly don't know what happens to my brain in London - and even more embarrassing, I used to work in the City too 🤦🏻‍♀️
