What do you put in your hand luggage?

If you are putting one large suitcase in the hold, and you are travelling alone on a long haul flight, what do you put in your hand luggage case?

I take a book, my laptop, earphones, some hand cream, and a few magazines. Plus one change of clothes in case my checked luggage gets lost. I have a long haul coming up and was wondering what other stuff people take to make their long flights more pleasant. I will be travelling for leisure purposes.

As little as possible as I hate hoiking heavy bags round an airport!

However on a really long flight I'd add to your list, a change of pants and basic toiletries to freshen up before landing (facial spray, moisturizer, wipes and toothpaste). A water bottle to fill up after security. And a scarf or something for layering with whatever blanket they'll provide.

Anti-bac wipes, puzzle book and nice pencils, savoury snacks, change of clothes, calm balm or lavender roller things, empty water bottle.

Pair of flip flops!

As little as possible! I do always carry bikini tops and a couple of bras though - I wear a 36hh and worry I'd be stuck if my case went missing

Growlybear83 · 21/08/2023 02:32

Medication, jewellery, iPad, headphones, anti bac wipes and spray, print outs of insurance policy, fligjt and hotel booking, photo of suitcase and contents, one change of clothes, book, hand cream, face spray.

Henryhover · 21/08/2023 02:38

Kindle
Colouring book and pens (I know..🤣)
Change of clothes
Period products
Wet wipes
Flip flops as my feet swell up once airborne!
Power bank and charger

S0upertrooper · 21/08/2023 02:58

To add to the list above. For long haul I take my neck pillow, hotel slippers, flight socks, eye drops and yoga block.

I use my yoga block to put my feet on and it take the pressure off my back.

I travel long haul a few times a year and I've not yet found the perfect luggage to accommodate all my gubbins.

Personal stuff, anything I don't want to lose and about 2 days worth of clothes and basic toiletries

SinnerBoy · 21/08/2023 05:07

Laptop & kindle, chargers, adaptor.
Passport & tickets.
A few packets of E-cigs.
Crossword book.
Bank cash bag with Euro coins.
Spare underwear, socks, T-Shirt & shorts.*

*Lesson learned from going to join ships and no bags arriving.

I fly a 24 hour journey several times a year, I did it last week. My carry on has:
Phone
iPad
Charger cables with old style usb plus plug adaptors (although most airlines have UK plugs),
Earphones wired and wireless
Earplugs
Silk eye covers
Spare leggings, knickers, t-shirt.
Basic toiletries for the shower in transit. Cashmere cardi,.
Thick socks and sliders.
Sunglasses
Spare foldable shopping bag
Passport
Wallet

I carry a small rucksack and handbag and check everything else in. I only ever wear sweaty betty Gary's and a t-shirt. The less the better!

This is so helpful, everyone. Thank you! I will be making a list of everything you have mentioned and then remove anything that duplicates what I already have listed!

Hi @Disco123456 .
Can you tell me what cashmere cardy you use please?
Thank you

housemaus · 03/05/2025 20:51

Phone, charger/charging block (although one did get taken off me once at security), purse, Kindle, headphones, moisturiser if it's a long flight, passport, and then a pouch which I take everywhere with me which has painkillers, lip balm, a scrunchie, antibac gel, and Rennies! If it's long haul I might take an extra hoodie and some big socks too because I get so cold on planes.
