Anyone else thinking about not using Twitter?

… Or ‘X’ I should say !!

So now it appears they are going to be removing the ability to block other accounts - I just don’t understand why?

What if someone is harassing your or annoying you and you can’t block them to stop them from contacting you further?

I didn’t really like Twitter being rebranded as ‘X’ in the first place but it seems really strange that you’ll no longer be able to block people.

I’m considering deleting my account tbh. Not sure what their end goal is tbh. Anyone else?

I haven’t deleted my account, but am no longer using it as much as I did. I’ve opened accounts on other platforms and am starting to use those more.

I’m thinking the same. I really only use Facebook so I might just stick to that although I always used to like Twitter.

I deleted it a few months ago. Used to miss the pre- Musk Twitter, it's just gone from bad to worse.

Boujibroke · 21/08/2023 00:17

I stopped using it a few months ago. It's really went down hill and not the same anymore. I stopped using Facebook years ago for the same reasons.

OCaptain · 21/08/2023 01:55

Removal of the block function is concerning. I don't think Musk will go through with it; there's been too much pushback from all sides.

immergeradeaus · 21/08/2023 07:50

I deleted my account a few weeks ago

ManyRiversToCross · 21/08/2023 07:52

I like it better now, it's interesting to see how censored the world viewpoints "allowed" were before. Not keen on getting rid of blocking though.

Trixiefirecracker · 21/08/2023 07:55

I stopped a while ago.

floribunda18 · 21/08/2023 07:56

I don't have to think about it, it's quite rubbish these days. Used to be on it quite a bit in 2009/10 and it was quite fun then as you only saw what you wanted in your timeline and I used to have some great chats and debates with people. Now it's just full of crap clickbait stuff regardless of who you follow.

Shopper727 · 21/08/2023 07:57

Deleted mine recently too, I didn’t really use it so wasn’t a big deal but notifications seemed to be constant so just got rid

calmcoco · 21/08/2023 07:57

I have been considering deleting my account, it is definitely not as good a user experience as it was.

I can see lots of the people I follow are also discussing moving so I think it will just be a gradual decline.

Latenightreader · 21/08/2023 08:32

I haven't deleted mine but I use it less and less. It feels like shouting into a vaccuum these days.

TheCyclingGorilla · 21/08/2023 08:51

Years ago you could choose to have tweets in timeline order. Now you can't and "Following" is a scrappy mess. Tweets from 18 hours ago pop up on my timeline, or there are duplicates.

I'm on X to keep up to date with the news and with women's rights. But it's getting increasingly difficult to do so because people are shadow-banned or restricted for silly reasons, or the tweets done come up immediately. I am seriously considering leaving.

LlynTegid · 21/08/2023 09:07

I stopped about two years ago. Haven't missed it one bit.

Gremlinsateit · 21/08/2023 09:10

I haven’t deleted my account but I deleted it from my phone today. I haven’t found a good alternative - Threads seems a bit dull unfortunately.

SirChenjins · 21/08/2023 09:10

I deleted Twitter, Instagram and TikTok a while back - I don’t miss the noise and vitriol one bit. I mainly used Twitter for work but things still appeared that I had mo use for. I use Facebook for various hobby related stuff and that’s more than enough.

passiveaggressivenonsense · 21/08/2023 09:17

I Couldn't work out what the porn hub style black x app was on my phone. I stopped using it when Musk took over.

RitzyMcFitzy · 21/08/2023 09:28

I’ve more or less given up on Twitter at this stage. Not as some grand gesture of disliking Musk (although I do) but the site is just a shadow of its former self and I now find it boring.

beeonmybonnett · 21/08/2023 15:35

I’m just gobsmacked that he wants to remove the block function. I just don’t understand it.

As a business man, surely he wants to retain users and drive up business by enticing new users to the site? I can’t imagine removing such a feature will be appealing to current and prospective future users and surely he will lose users?

But then I have heard Android and Apple wouldn’t allow the app on their respective app stores without a block function.

NillyNoMates · 21/08/2023 15:43

I’ve not deleted it, but I have practically stopped using it. A lot of the people I interacted with have moved to Threads so Twitter is very quiet now anyway. I think it will die a slow death.

Roussette · 21/08/2023 15:44

It's got so much worse. I use it a lot for news but so much random crap comes up now. And since 'X' it's even worse.

I follow a lot of accounts, and a lot follow me and the thought of starting again... not sure where. I don't use FB for news and views, I just keep that small, personal and private for close family.

Such a shame Elon The Idiot has mucked it up.

ElizabethBest · 21/08/2023 15:45

I stopped the minute Elon Musk got involved. No thanks.

Acornsoup · 21/08/2023 16:02

Deleted it straightaway - I'm not even slightly interested in the Elon Musk show.

EVHead · 21/08/2023 16:12

I think he’s running it into the ground to show how powerful he is. Twat. I deleted it a while ago.
