Did my DF spike my drink?

Name changed (hope it worked) as I am a regular.

Went to an event at the weekend, I had my dc with me (older teens), I don’t really drink much and haven’t done any drugs since a teenager. A friend turned up (male friend), he’s heavily into taking coke and drinks. He gave me a can of beer which was fine but then he went off to the bar and bought a drink, he then poured half into my glass. An hour later I had a banging headache and went for a lie down but had really vivid dreams or I was hallucinating, found it really hard to sleep and felt pretty unwell for a couple hours. I didn’t feel drunk, I had only drunk the equivalent of a pint of beer/cider all evening. Does it sound like he put something in my drink?

I’ve known people put mdma in drinks and drink it, it could have been that

I have spoken to him and I did ask what was in the drink he gave me but he hasn’t really answered.

Tells you all you need to know, I'm afraid.

uncomfortablydumb53 · 20/08/2023 22:52

What an awful thing to do to a " friend" even more so as your DC were with you
Sounds like MDMA( DS2 experimented briefly and hallucinated)
If you feel unwell at all, get medical advice
Avoid your ex friend

GLORIAGloriarse · 20/08/2023 23:03

I don't think you can trust this man again. Perhaps it could have been a migraine, seizure, etc. But if you haven't experienced these symptoms before, it's in character for him and he hasn't given you a straight answer then I would cut him off as it is sounding like there is a strong possibility he was involved. You don't want to be vulnerable again around him. Nor your children.

You might want to ring 111 just in case it's something else.

Second hand weed smoke and one pint is unlikely to lead to these symptoms.

Loverofoxbowlakes · 20/08/2023 23:08

I have spoken to him and I did ask what was in the drink he gave me but he hasn’t really answered.

Anything other than an instant 'nothing, what are you on about' means he knows EXACTLY what he put in your drink. Absolute deal-breaker for me OP, what's your response?

Isthisexpected · 20/08/2023 23:11

I can't understand how you can spend time with someone who does drugs and then take your kids too. Yes it sounds like something like acid/LSD/MDMA! I would not have been going in the first place. Madness.

Absolutely this.

TiaraBoo · 20/08/2023 23:19

What did he say exactly when you asked if there was anything in your drink?

babysharkdoodoodedoodedoo · 20/08/2023 23:28

No, it doesn’t sound like any drug I’ve ever experienced (I’ve been spiked and tried recreational drugs in my student days). It sounds like you were unwell or reacting to the alcohol. What would he gain by spiking you with something that gave you a headache and weird dreams?!

Vintagecreamandcottagepie · 20/08/2023 23:30

Yes you were drugged.

Stay away from said friend.

Ask again and if he doesn't answer you will know he doesn't want to tell you. I'm not sure how common ecstasy is in the UK but that sounds like it.

babysharkdoodoodedoodedoo · 20/08/2023 23:36

😂 with kindness to the other posters, you’d KNOW if you’d taken MDMA. You’d not have a headache and go to bed, that’s for sure. You’d feel entirely different in every way. Coke too, but in a different way. The closest I have felt to how OP describes from a drug would be mushrooms - the weird very vivid dreams where you’re not sure if you’re actually seeing it or if you’re dreaming - but again, you’d feel SO different when away and it would be very obvious that you’d taken something. You wouldn’t just get a headache and take yourself off to bed. Coke, MDMA and mushrooms you’d all feel entirely different and you’d not be sat here asking if you’d been spiked because you’d be certain. And when I had my drink spiked by what we assume based on symptoms was rohypnol, or however you spell it, I was completely out of it after one drink. Remember feeling so helpless, knew I wanted to get home but couldn’t get there. Just a complete mess. Couldn’t remember basically anything, just snapshots. Horrible experience.

determinedtomakethiswork · 20/08/2023 23:59

I would be suspicious enough not to want to ever have anything to do with him again.

Missrabbithasfaintedagain · 21/08/2023 00:01

I used to take drugs within the race scene when I was much younger as I was unknowingly self medicating a mental illness before a diagnosis.
what you describe sounds like mdma

Andthereyougo · 21/08/2023 00:04

The only time I’ve had very, very vivid dreams was when I had to take anti-malarials, apparently one of the meds is well known for it. I’m not a medic but it sounds more chemical than alcohol related. If he did spike your drink he’s no friend.

Yourekiddingright · 21/08/2023 00:14

That's definitely MDMA. Happened to me when I used to take it many moons ago. Except I expected it, I wasn't spiked.

Drunkskunkbat · 21/08/2023 08:11

This was the first time he had been near my dc, my dc are older teens (one almost 20). It was a festival, we happened to both be there so we just met up for a couple hours, I was meant to meet up with him later without my teens but because I was unwell i didn’t.

The drink was poured by someone else and he claimed he didn’t know what it was (but was from the bar). I have hardly spoken to him since because he obviously took a lot more than what ever I had and he’s been recovering 😬. I think he would just say the drink was not spiked by him. I partly blame myself for being stupid enough to drink something I had not seen being poured/pulled.

I was fine after a couple hours, thirsty the next day but fine. I am guessing what ever it was wasn’t a very high dose but was something I am not used to and obviously wasn’t prepared for.

What do you mean?

Greenwitchhorse · 21/08/2023 08:41
  • Is there anyway you can go to the hospital, explain what happened and have your blood tested?
  • It sounds like someone put MDNA in your drink. It is worrying if it is someone at the bar (staff, another customer) or your ''friend''. They could have done that to other people as well
  • have you lost track of what you did (because the drug can cause you to ''lose time'? is there anyway he could have done that to then assault you? I would also explain that to the hospital and ask them for a physical check. It know this is all very unpleasant but you need to try to work out what happened and not let your friend get away with it.

''@babysharkdoodoodedoodedoo

Actually that is not necessarily true. I tried that once with a friend (small dose) and it very little effect on me beyond feeling hot and a weird headache....no hallucinations whatsoever :).

Drunkskunkbat · 21/08/2023 09:18

I didn’t go straight to bed with a head ache. There was a couple hours in between drinking and getting a head ache. The head ache was probably due to dancing and being dehydrated. I had something to eat, took dc back to the tent, I even returned for a bit on my own but then my head was hurting a lot so I went back to the tent to lie down and try and shift the head ache, it was then I had the weird vivid dreams or hallucinations and felt odd for a couple hours, at some point I must have fell asleep for a hour but I didn’t lose track of time, wasn’t physically assaulted.

I posted here just to see if it was the kind of reaction people get from coke or MDMA? Or wether it was just a reaction to a migraine or alcohol.

I did ask him what was in the drink? He didn’t give me an answer, just told me how f#cked he was.

I shouldn’t have drunk it. I spend ages telling my eldest teen to be careful with drinks and stupidly I did the opposite.

I don’t want to go to hospital or report anything. I was in a place with 1000’s of people, it would be impossible to prove anything anyway.

I will just except my stupidity.

Maryjaneslastdance · 21/08/2023 10:50

If you had a big enough dose to cause hallucinations. You would 100% know you were high on mdma. Coke doesn't make you hallucinate either so based on that empirical evidence I'd say you were not spiked with either of those. Rohypnol I've had no experience with but from what I gather it knocks you out for several hours so unlikely to be that either.

It sounds like you don't trust this person anyway so just cut contact. If you're that worried go to the police and report it.
