Welsh schools - moving to Wales.

Hi all! Just looking for information or feedback on schools in Wales. We have a 10 and 8 year old and really considering moving to be closer to friends and family we have in the Aberdare area. There is a number of reasons for this move but my biggest concern is the schooling. I know a school change will be difficult anyway but we know no Welsh. Do schools in Wales speak Welsh or are they English speaking and get taught Welsh? Would my two be bullied as they are ‘outsiders’? Has anyone done the move and can tell me from experience.
thank you so much 😊

There are English medium and welsh medium schools. English medium schools teach totally through the medium of English but the kids do learn welsh as well although not to a fluent level. Your kids would pick it up quickly I’m sure

Like PP said - there are Welsh medium and English medium schools and the children in England medium learn Welsh as a second language.

We moved to Wales when DD was 8, no previous knowledge of the language. She went English medium primary and now in an English medium como. She doesn’t love the language but is starting Y10 in September with an A predicted for GCSE and doing well according to her teacher. Also, no teasing beyond being told she was posh (southern England accent) which she found amusing, everyone was very friendly and welcoming to her.
