Industrial vacuum cleaners

mintbiscuit · 20/08/2023 16:06

Been through so many brands of vacuum cleaners: Miele, Shark, vax, Dyson, hoover, Bosch.

They have all given up in one way or another. Usually sucking stuff up. We’re not a massively hairy family either.

I suspect I have an evil goblin living in our house messing with them.

Has anyone spent the extra on an industrial type vacuum? I feel that we need something powerful enough to suck up small children. Does such a thing exist?

Do they break? That's a ridiculous number of vacuums to go through. Are you cleaning them, replacing filters etc? I've had a mile for 20 years and it's still going strong.

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 20/08/2023 16:12

We have a Titan from Screwfix for the outhouse and patio, it's good and designed for use on building sites but it's pretty big.

DahliaMacNamara · 20/08/2023 16:13

Never mind paying extra. Go low and get yourself a Titan one from Screwfix. They eat anything, are easy to maintain, and it's nowhere near as annoying if they die when you haven't spent hundreds on them.

Oo, 2 votes for Titan. Off to research.

@MrsPelligrinoPetrichor DH swears blind to me he’s been cleaning filters, hoses etc regularly. I feel like we are cursed!

The ones for pet hairs have been the worst weirdly.

You need a Henry.

mintbiscuit · 20/08/2023 16:50

These suggestions are great so far. I’m getting v excited about how cheap they are! Starting to think big brand hoovers could be a marketing con 🤨

I've used a couple of Henrys ,can't understand the love for them, they're useless in my experience. Unless the ones I tried were faulty but have stayed with a few friends who have them.

rwalker · 20/08/2023 17:18

2nd hand Kirby hoover cheap as no one wants them
and the hundreds of attachments some are even self propelled you just have to steer
think the model we have is over 40 years old
have a cordless dyson for quick nip round and stairs

DahliaMacNamara · 20/08/2023 17:23

I don't know what they've done to vacuum cleaners, OP. We had a wet and dry VAX in the late 80s that lasted well into the 21st century, then a series of expensive but flaky big brand replacements, until I gave up on the hype and went down the strong and simple route.

TeaAndStrumpets · 20/08/2023 17:41

Sebo, with AEG cordless as a back up.

Florence4170 · 20/08/2023 17:50

The yellow line shows where the garden starts so having one in the kitchen wall instead of a unit would see her going out into the front and I want her to into the garden.

Oops sorry wrong thread

No it's 100% you and your usage

charliechaplins · 20/08/2023 17:59

OP - please answer this.

  1. how long do your vacuums work before breaking
  2. do you clean all filters on a regular basis
  3. do you call the support line when they stop working?
  4. do you Hoover up anything you shouldn't?

I've just got gifted a free shark because apparently it wasn't sucking up stuff. Previous owner called shark and they replaced..... however the filter was very dirty and that's why it didn't work. Dust everywhere. Easy win!

AlfietheSchnauzer · 20/08/2023 23:13

OP how filthy are your floors to have broke. That many vacuums? I know some do let you down (Bissell Crosswave 😡) but you are the common denominator out of all of those. Do you wear shoes in your house? I'm not trying to be accusatory but we all know those houses do exist where everyone wears their outside shoes all day every day and the carpets resemble the bottom of a birdcage

Alphabet1spaghetti2 · 20/08/2023 23:36

Our chimney sweep came with a titan hoover this week. Apparently indestructible and has had it years - given the crap that comes out of used chimneys, I think he’s probably right. Downside is that it was bigger than a Henry. (Which are easy to maintain but horrible to use imo)

mintbiscuit · 21/08/2023 11:53

Clearly we must generate a lot of dirt here!

I can’t be dealing with a strict no shoes household but kids do tend to take off in porch. I swear the socks just move dirt and fluff around though!

Sent DH out for a Titan today. We’ve experimented and v pleased so far! (This is the highlight of my day!). Only £65!

No.

You haven't answered basic questions so we can be sure you aren't servicing the cleaners or not using them as required.

Alright, it's a hoover, she's not on trial.

Whyohwhyohwhy123 · 22/08/2023 06:21

I’ve had Hettie for 10 years she’s coped with building sites and a lot of dirt. I do change her bag and wash her filters when needed though.

3rdtimemumma · 22/08/2023 06:59

Vacuum cleaners just aren't as good since they brought in a new law saying they couldn't be over a certain wattage. I know a lot of people who've got through a lot. I'm hanging onto my 10 year-old miele gir dear life, knowing nothing else is as good now. I do have a dyson and robot hoover and have cleaners. The cleaners' hoovers are not great imo and we've had different cleaners over the years with different, newer vacuum cleaners.
