Regrets from your past

Does anyone sometimes feel wracked with shame or guilt over past actions? I live overseas recently visited home. An old “friend” brought up something from my past that I did, in my early 20’s, in front of lots of people.

I can’t say what it was without being outing but I didn’t hurt anyone - I just feel so stupid and embarrassed that I thought it would be a good idea. People must have thought I was awful and laughed at me.

Just wondered if other people get this regret/shame from time to time or is it just me? I like to think I’m vaguely intelligent but looking back I can’t believe how stupid I was.

Yes loads. I'd def like to go back and change things. Made some terrible choices and equally wish I'd been stronger/robust in some situations too.
All I can do is try to forget about it and carry on as I always have and always will

Oh yes for sure. Loads if regrettable sexual partners, unprofessional behaviour early on in working life. But, I feel I am quite balanced and objective in my life now at 36, I'm decisive but impulsive where I can be as well as analytical of my choices. I still struggle loads with shame in past life events.

My note on this is: I am NOW trying to avoid a regret in 20 years. I want a bit of land with a smallholding to raise my DDs on until they leave home and I know I will regret if I don't absolutely 100% throw myself into it!

Its best to look back and not wish the regrets away as you can take the cringe and shame and use it positively going forward. Make sure this time doesn't end up giving you butterflies of regret in 10/15/20 years.

If anyone goes through their life with ‘ no regrets’ or feel no shame or embarrassment for something they once done, they are more than likely a psychopath.

too many situations to name 😂 we learn and we grow.

Great post that has comforted me@Atovell

I think most people who have gone through tough muddles mean that they won't berate themselves for the decisions they made when they say "I've no regrets"

I've a lot of regrets but at the same time they're not upsetting me much at this point.

I massively regret the absolutely horrendous lies I told when I was 16/17. They were awful and caused huge harm
