For the first time in over 20 years I am at home alone

Its nice, but VERY quiet.

DS1 and DH have gone university visiting in the UK and DS2 is on camp for 5 days.

I quite like it, but overall my conclusion is I prefer my family to be here.

I am eating dinner and mums netting, which is unheard of!

I had two hours to myself this morning. Bliss!

Galectable · 19/08/2023 20:10

I get 3 hours to myself once a week. I'm on a mission to get more. It's called Me Time 😉 and it is so relaxing. But it does feel weird at first. Do the things that bring you joy!

FunnysInLaJardin · 19/08/2023 20:11

Its really odd. Everything is so much quicker. Making food for one person rather than 4, lunch for one person etc.

Got me thinking how much cheaper it would be to live on my own, and how much less hassle!

My kids are 13 and 17 so I get a fair amount of time to myself, but not a whole day and evening like this.

Even watched Saturday kitchen this morn as DH wasn't hogging the telly!

I have the house to myself tonight too... I think I'll have a nice bath and then find something decent on Netflix.. big plans Grin

FunnysInLaJardin · 19/08/2023 20:33

@heidihigh 😁sounds like me. Just finished my dinner for one and am now going to watch that Lucy Letby documentary. Or maybe the Tyson Fury thing on Netflix. Who knows!

DS1 and DH will be back about 10 full of tales of Brighton, so have to be mentally ready for the maelstrom !

as a lone parent, i get more of this than I would like (WFH so get it when DS at school - and do evenings when DS is in bed count???) but also I do love it as well. harder to think when people are rushing around even if it's just DS. I have come to love peace and quiet over the years. I find if I have people staying i have a natural point whereby I need a break from them a day or two in.

dreamydandelion · 19/08/2023 20:38

@FunnysInLaJardin the thing is all bills would be paid by one person, all your rent or mortgage (if you have it), anything for the house would be bought for one person, energy for heating orusing oven is for one person etc. So I think in most cases a false economy! I say this as a single parent. That said I do have ultimate say over what I buy for the house, food, expenses etc. So it's not all bad.

FunnysInLaJardin · 19/08/2023 20:41

@dreamydandelion all of that alone time counts! It is nice, but equally I wouldn't want too much of it.

However I hate people staying and the family that do stay, very infrequently, know I need my headspace and when to bugger off!

yes, quite! I am the higher earner at the moment so could actually run the house for just me on my salary. Not though for me and two teen hungry boys.

Plus I love my DH very much so its a bit of a silly fantasy on my part really.

I mean, who would mow the lawn, make my coffee in the morning and sort out all the household breakdowns!

And actually who would I have a laugh with, and go for a walk or swim with.

Right, sack the whole thing, I prefer the cost and the chatter!

But OP no man socks to pickup?

MeinKraft · 19/08/2023 20:55

Gosh you can watch anything without waiting for someone to come in and start talking over the top of it

BoogLoaf · 19/08/2023 21:05

I've been married 25 years, never once been on my own overnight, or had a night away on my own (apart from being in hospital to have DC, does that count 😂)

It's something I dream about!

Enjoy it OP!

Im the same, never had a night alone in 25 years

FunnysInLaJardin · 19/08/2023 21:15

No, no man socks or kid socks, just one plate for the dishwasher. It’s a real first for me. But keep wondering how they are and what they are doing, especially DS2 who is totally out of contact for 5 days

I've been married 34 years and go away on my own for a weekend or even, like last year, a week on my own. Husband does the same - he has hobbies so does get a week away plus some weekends. I quite like being on my own - the freedom of not having to think about feeding people is wonderful but it gets a bit dullsville after a while.

gazpachosoupday · 19/08/2023 21:44

I had this at the start of the month, a whole weekend. DP took DS off to see his family. I had so many plans of sorting shit out.

Instead, I stayed in my PJs for the weekend and released I now needed the child to remind me to adult and do things like cook.
