Puppy Due, Guests Staying a week later - help inspire me with meal ideas!

Our guests will help too, of course, but I think we'll all be either knackered, distracted or both!

There are obvious options like slow cooker chili but I was wondering about tried and tested but less obvious ideas...

This is so odd, why does a puppy stop you cooking like normal

anywherehollie · 19/08/2023 18:57

Do you mean a baby?

TetrapanaxRex · 19/08/2023 19:03

Are you giving birth to the puppy yourself?

No, no need for sarcasm. However, I know I'd like some meal ideas for things you shove in the oven / slow cooker and not have to tend to.

Stew and dumplings

Puppy stew

needtonamechangeforthis1 · 19/08/2023 21:58

The people questioning why you can't cook with a puppy have clearly never had one! 😂

Personally I'd get some nice M&S type oven ready meals that you can shove in the oven. Or order takeout!

Puppies are hard work. Bit like newborns but bitey and mobile! 😂

@JemimaPyjamas please return to this thread with photos when pup has arrived!

SushiSuave · 19/08/2023 22:06

This is so dramatic. I would suggest you cook whatever you would normally cook and not make such a fuss. It's a dog, not a member of the royal family.

SushiSuave · 19/08/2023 22:07

And I despise when people compare a dog to a newborn child. Get a grip or maybe don't get the dog...

JemimaPyjamas · 19/08/2023 22:08

@needtonamechangeforthis1 You’ve got it!! Also, who wants to be slaving over a hot stove in those circumstances? I normally love cooking / hosting but this time the easier the better!
will post pics, and thank you!

Honestly if you're getting the puppy and a week later guests are descending can't you wait for the guests to leave before collecting the pup. It's going to be extremely overwhelming for them to have guests so soon after arriving at their new home.

JemimaPyjamas · 19/08/2023 22:18

Thanks but it’s all in hand, this is not my first dog.

I am just excited and wanting to plan ahead with the less exciting domestic stuff. Not that weird really!

No idea why people come on just to be bitchy. Easy recipes were asked for.

Things you can assemble in the morning/batch cook and freeze like the recipes above or tray bakes. Lots of inspiration on bbc food

JemimaPyjamas · 19/08/2023 22:33

I don’t either @Green777

BBC and batch cooking is a good and sensible idea, something that’s easily overshadowed when you’re looking forward to something far more exciting!

I've had several puppies and never needed to prepare the cooking in this manner 😂however each to their own.

Enjoy your lovely new puppy and having guests over. Forget the unnecessary sarcasm and negativity on here.

Thank you again @Green777
