Adult relative returning from stay with me in SE London. They suffer with extreme anxiety.I will have exhausted ideas by last day but will need to think of something for last day - museum perhaps? South Bank wander ? They need something to occupy their mind- interested/very knowledgeable about plants.

Please help, he's tortured and difficult and I'm not sure how I'll cope.
Any ideas?

Do you want to be near Waterloo, or willing to travel a bit? What time will he/you be in London?

Clickandcollect82 · 19/08/2023 09:43

How is he in crowds?

The Garden Museum at Lambeth Palace - a very manageable walk from Waterloo.

They have a nice café.

If they are staying with you why not have a chilled out morning at home? Cooked late breakfast maybe and then potter about before leaving for the station and maybe grabbing a coffee somewhere nice along the way?

I was going to suggest the Garden Museum as well. It's got a very calm atmosphere which might suit your relative.

Garden Museum and Archbishop's Park.

Tate Modern or the Hayward.

Or if you want high-rise urban The Sky Garden but depends on how your relative’s anxiety manifests, perhaps.

Kew opens at 10 if I'm not mistaken. If you're at Waterloo, 40 minutes by train. Leave at 9, be there at 10, leave on the way back at 2... four hours is a nice amount of time.

National gallery or national portrait gallery in Trafalgar Square is walking distance to Waterloo

Courtauld Gallery. Right at the north end of Waterloo bridge and usually quieter than other places.

Aquarium on the South Bank is really good and he might find that absorbing?

rileynexttime · 19/08/2023 13:03

Oh wow some great ideas ,I love you guys!

Garden museum, Chelsea Physic and the Aquarium sound distinct possibilities.

A chilled out morning at home wouldn't work unfortunately. He wakes at 4 am at peak anxiety and will have helped himself to breakfast . Will then get ready to go and be bouncing off the walls fretting about getting to the station and missing the train.

I need to try and give him other stuff to distract him, and an itinerary with clear timings.
