I have a window cleaner who comes monthly. For the last couple of months now, I've had suspicions that he hasn't been doing it properly at least. I don't pay huge attention tpo the specific state of the windows when I've left - the living room window and the porch look like they might have been cleaned- just not very well. But the back ones don't look like they've been done at all.

This month, my daughter and I were home all day. I'd left the back gate unlocked as I always do but the window cleaner didn't come.

I then found the 'Your windows have been cleaned please pay' note that had been pushed through the letterbox.

I know he hasn't been. We were in all day. And there are still cobwebs, dirt, bird poo etc and the usual window sill debris.

I need to text and tell him but I'm unsure how too word it. I'm autistic and sometimes find it hard to find a balance between weak and rude.

I want to cancel future visits and find someone else. I suppose I'll have to pay as I can't 'prove' he didn't come. It's just my word against his. I also don't know whether he works alone or has a small team so the person I'm messaging might not be the person who should have cleaned them?

I just need help wording the text. Thank you.

‘Hi window cleaner, received your calling card for x day but I think there must be a mistake as I was home all day and the windows weren’t cleaned, this is also backed up by the evidence they’ve not been done such as cobwebs and being dirty still. Please can you clarify?’

or
‘hi wi Dow cleaner, thanks for your services, I’ve paid up to date and will no li get require any further cleaning. Kind regards.’

Sorry!
’hi window cleaner, thanks for your services, I’ve paid up to date and will no longer require any further cleaning. Kind regards.’

You don't have to pay. You can prove they weren't done - You were in the house and the windows are still dirty. That's evidence.

Just text and say you would like to cancel the service with immediate effect. You were at home on whatever date they came to do the windows and were disappointed to see that they did not clean the windows however put a reciept through the letterbox. You will not be paying for this week as they did not provide a service.

Hope you get a better window cleaner next time!

Would just be blunt.

”Hello X, this is Y at 12 Cedar Drive. Got your windows card today, but the windows haven’t been done - I was in all day. Please take me off your future rounds.”

Then obviously don’t pay.
I doubt he’ll say anything (except maybe some lie that he had an apprentice or was sick so someone had done his round to help).

Take photographs of all your windows.

Don’t worry about being polite to someone who tried to scam you.

If you wanted to be less decisive you could say, “got your card but the windows haven’t been done yet?” and leave it open for the bullshit excuse. But what’s the point? I expect you’d be ignored, or get, “sorry, I forgot my cards today so sent my lad out with them on his bike, forgot to cross your address off as I didn’t get time to get to you.”

Hi window cleaner, stop taking this piss, end of.

AnySuggestionsPlease · 19/08/2023 09:27

Thank you.

I wouldn't mind a bullshit excuse (I'd still ask to be taken off futture rounds) but I'm worried about a response which insists he did come and I must pay.

Hi. I received the note about paying but the windows haven't been cleaned. I was here all day and they're still dirty. Please see photos to follow. Please remove me from your future rounds.

Then send pics

If you receive anything more from him say "Sorry, I'm not interested in a discussion on this. As I said, please remove me from your future rounds".

I would go with this first message. He might have got someone else to do it and they haven't, so he might not know. It's a polite message, so see what his response is.

Maybe don't say you were in all day then, maybe just say that your windows have not been cleaned this week and you no longer wish to be included on his rounds.

If he replies and says that they were done on x day then you can say actually, you were in all day that day and nobody cleaned them.

I agree with @ImtheFlag don't show your hand immediately because they'll have an answer for everything.
