Help me remember the name of a food

It was from the 70s or 80s.

They were very flat, hard, yellow (ish) pieces (maybe like dry pasta) that were put in hot oil. They expanded and curled up and became crispy.

Not sure I've explained it very well but does anyone know what I'm talking about/remember them?

Vesta curry

ilovethepug · 19/08/2023 00:56

Was it the chow main vesta meal. Like a dried ready meal that you cooked in a pan, came with crispy noodle things that you had to fry

mrsfollowill · 19/08/2023 00:57

Vesta ready meal? staple in the 70's and 80's - sure there was a Chinese one with prawn crackers,

mrsfollowill · 19/08/2023 00:59

I see all us 70's born knew what this was about!

TogetherInEclecticDreams · 19/08/2023 00:59

Like Quavers? You can buy them you pop yourself.

FatNoMoreSue · 19/08/2023 01:00

Yeah sounds like the crispy noodles you got with Vesta curry.

sfnets · 19/08/2023 01:02

You get them in the asian shops if you google 'Top-Op Far Far Squares Coloured Fryums 250g Uncook Wheat Snack Bake Fry' you'll find them :)

Yes, the Mum in Back in time for Dinner cooked them in the 1970's episode.

howaboutthistime · 19/08/2023 01:03

They were small, maybe a couple of CMS. It wasn't a meal but yes a bit like quavers. The name is driving me mad

Yes!

Can't remember what they were called though

I associate them with Newcastle Races though for some reason I can also not remember.... Are you from the North East of England O?

TyneTeas · 19/08/2023 01:04

OP not O!

Like someone said earlier, prawn crackers. They were like discs of plastic until you dropped them in hot oil, and they puffed up.

I'm from London. Yes a bit like the vesta thing above but I don't remember them being part of a meal, more like a crisp snack
