Looking at the cost of getting to a friend’s house for dinner. It’s three changes on the tube and roughly £10 for two, takes 40 minutes. A taxi is £15 door to door and takes 45 minutes.

Which would you take?

Bus/walk part way?

Depends what shoes I want to wear

Comfy shoes - tube. Much less likely to hit unexpected traffic, and cheaper.

Uncomfy shoes - taxi.

Tube, wear trainers there and bring heels in bag if you need to. Taxi is never as quick as predicted in central London due to traffic in my experience and there is nothing more annoying than sitting in gridlock because the cabbie decided to drive up Charing Cross road at rush hour and seeing the meter ticking up and up while not moving.

I'd probably get tube there, but then taxi back when it's late and cold and dark and I might've had a drink.

If it was raining I'd Uber both ways.

If the tube journey was considerably longer I'd Uber both ways.

If both legs were in daylight, I might consider tubing both ways.

No-one needs to tip ANYONE in 2023. Tipping is outdated, and harks back to the days when some unskilled workers were paid much less than others. (eg, trainee hairdressers, waitresses, barmaids... and taxi drivers!)

The minimum pay act in the 1990s stopped this.

If it's a £15 taxi fare.. pay £15! No need to tip. At all.

It's Uber where you do and it's built in to the app to be able to do so. £15 for a 45 min journey is incredibly cheap. A cab would be 2 or 3 times as much. A £1.50 tip still leaves you quids in

HappyAsASandboy · 19/08/2023 00:13

Tube because I'd prefer it.

pizzaHeart · 19/08/2023 00:19

Tube probably, as £15 for 45 minutes sounds too good to be true.
I might change my mind if it’s raining or if I wear fancy clothes and heels.

longtompot · 19/08/2023 00:37

Taxi, £5 cheaper and door to do with no changes

longtompot · 19/08/2023 00:38

Misread, not cheaper but still door to door

MrsWombat · 19/08/2023 07:39

Are you sure 45 mins in an Uber would be £15?

rookiemere · 19/08/2023 07:43

We've started trying to factor in the cost of our time in these circumstances, in this one I would say taxi.

Poontangle · 19/08/2023 07:46

Tube both ways. I hate Ubers.

Natsku · 19/08/2023 07:49

Tube as I'd know for sure how much it costs and won't have to worry about getting stuck in traffic. I would not trust a 45 minute journey to cost 15 quid, bound to increase dramatically once you're in the car.

yogasaurus · 19/08/2023 07:50

Uber, easily

Zipsilon · 19/08/2023 13:47

Cost £14 one way and £17 the other, and took 37 minutes.
