The tube is £10 a taxi is £15, what do you do?

Looking at the cost of getting to a friend’s house for dinner. It’s three changes on the tube and roughly £10 for two, takes 40 minutes. A taxi is £15 door to door and takes 45 minutes.

Which would you take?

Taxi, unless you're really strapped for cash. The £10 (return) difference is not worth the hassle otherwise.

Taxi. No brainer 😂

Exactly.

Horriblewoman · 18/08/2023 20:44

No way an Uber through London for 45 mins takes £15!

I’d always take the tube though.

MMorales · 18/08/2023 20:45

Taxi

TenOhSeven · 18/08/2023 20:46

The tube, I hate getting taxis.

AffIt · 18/08/2023 20:47

For the sake of a fiver and limited dicking about, a taxi.

1daughterand3sons · 18/08/2023 20:48

Got a Uber today 10 minute journey and it was £12.00. Only got an Uber because DD brought a bike from Halfords and was easier than getting the bus.

Taxi due to time saved

How is time saved by taking the taxi? OP said 40min by Tube, 45 min by taxi.

Tube, anyway. It's always likely to be quicker than a road journey and it's significantly cheaper.

Taxi fare might increase if the journey takes longer for any reason, Tube fare will be capped.

It also depends how far the stations are from the respective houses which can add to transport times. Unless they both live right near the stations.

ErrolTheDragon · 18/08/2023 20:52

Tube there as it's quicker and cheaper, maybe taxi back.

Chersfrozenface · 18/08/2023 20:54

Depends where you're changing on the Tube and which lines you're using. How much trekking from one platform to another is there and how reliable is each line?

Testina · 18/08/2023 20:56

FadeAwayAndRadiate · 18/08/2023 20:39

@Testina I never noticed the 45 minute bit when I messaged you (sorry!) Blush

🤣 no worries! I’m sorry then for over explaining my reasoning!

purplecorkheart · 18/08/2023 20:59

Tube there if the switches are easy enough and taxi back.

Bethanbee · 18/08/2023 21:11

Tube. Taxi may barely move with the traffic. Taxi worst for the environment. Taxi more expensive. Any time I am used to take a taxi I always felt I had to make conservation with the taxi driver which I hated. Taxi will not be as reliable.

FoodFann · 18/08/2023 21:16

Tube is too stressful, to smoggy and too hot. Taxi wins every time. I used to blow my nose and the tissue would be black when I got the tube every day.

SquirmOfEels · 18/08/2023 21:16

It depends what the changes are. If they're really easy ones (like Victoria to Bakerloo line at Oxford Circus) then tube every time. But if you have to walk miles along passages, like some changes at Embankment or Bank) then maybe Uber

Or tube there and Uber back (especially if you will be rather - umm - relaxed later on)

CatsLikeBoxes · 18/08/2023 21:22

The timings and cost seem odd.... tube is usually quicker, and even a 10 minute ride to my local hospital cost be > £6 by Uber.
According to city mapper, for example, Tottenham Hale to Victoria (random journey, just the last one I undertook) is 21 mins by tube. Uber is 55 mins and £24!

Fedupwitheveryone · 18/08/2023 21:24

just because Uber quoted you £15 does not mean a driver will turn up and take you

Utereusbegone · 18/08/2023 21:26

Definitely taxi

BBno4 · 18/08/2023 21:27

Uber now add service fee plus clean air charge

alwaysmovingforwards · 18/08/2023 21:43

Timetochangegonzo · 18/08/2023 20:29

My 11 minute London Uber journey was £15 the other night. No way a 45 minute one will be.

Couldn't agree more.
OP is either mistaken or a troll that's never actually been to London.

Dragonsandcats · 18/08/2023 21:45

Taxi

Needmorelego · 18/08/2023 21:53

Surely you need a taxi back too?
I pay around £19 for a uber everyday to
get my girl to school (twice daily so almost £40 total). The journey is about 25 minutes.
Sometimes the price is more due to high demand. Transport strike days and if it’s pissing down with rain the price can jump up
by a tenner.

Tube there, taxi home.

DrCoconut · 18/08/2023 22:21

A fiver each for a 40 minute journey by public transport is amazing. It's costly and unreliable to take public transport here. Maybe tube there and taxi/Uber back?
