Looking at the cost of getting to a friend’s house for dinner. It’s three changes on the tube and roughly £10 for two, takes 40 minutes. A taxi is £15 door to door and takes 45 minutes.

Which would you take?

Tube. I'm not a big fan of taxis, plus the tube's not contributing to congestion on the roads.

HarrietJet · 18/08/2023 20:21

I don't believe a 45 minute journey will cost £15... Where the hell are you going that's 4 tube journeys away??

Dragonwindow · 18/08/2023 20:21

Tube because I wouldn't have to interact directly with another human being. What do you actually DO with yourself in the back of someone's car for 45 minutes?!

RadioBamboo · 18/08/2023 20:22

Tube is more reliable

That definitely crossed my mind!

I would tip if I was only paying £15 for 45 minutes. So it wouldn’t be £15 vs £10 for me.

No-one needs to tip ANYONE in 2023. Tipping is outdated, and harks back to the days when some unskilled workers were paid much less than others. (eg, trainee hairdressers, waitresses, barmaids... and taxi drivers!)

The minimum pay act in the 1990s stopped this.

If it's a £15 taxi fare.. pay £15! No need to tip. At all.

Hawkins009 · 18/08/2023 20:25

Taxi due to time saved, then safety too, and more reliable too

Tube is more reliable

How? Confused

Taxi

TheFlis12345 · 18/08/2023 20:26

Where are you getting a 45 minute Uber for £15? I use them frequently and a journey that length would normally be at least double that.

DrasticAction · 18/08/2023 20:26

Taxi

Good question. I never noticed the 45 minute in the taxi bit. How many miles are you going in that 45 minutes @Zipsilon ???

OnedayIwillfeelfree · 18/08/2023 20:28

I live in London and get Ubers all the time because of my disability. Very suprised at what you have been quoted. £15 would get you a 20 minute journey in clear traffic at most. You do realise that the Uber price is just a quote, and it can rise, according to the time it takes?

Timetochangegonzo · 18/08/2023 20:29

My 11 minute London Uber journey was £15 the other night. No way a 45 minute one will be.

OneMoreCookieMonster · 18/08/2023 20:29

Tube there and taxi back. Guess from the cost you're splitting the cab 3 way

@FadeAwayAndRadiate I said I would tip (and therefore it’s a different cost calculation) I didn’t say OP needed to tip.
I also didn’t say I would tip simply because it’s a taxi. I’m actually not a tipper generally. I specifically said I would tip if I was paying £15 for a 45 minute journey.

Because see what you were saying about people being underpaid?

If Uber is driving the pricing on a 45 minute journey down to £15, just how much money per hour do you think that driver is making?

I couldn’t in good conscience pay £15 for that.

Cowlover89 · 18/08/2023 20:31

Taxi

Clymene · 18/08/2023 20:31

Taxi. There's two of you and they're all electric anyway. Extra fiver is worth it for aircon and less hassle.

Timetochangegonzo · 18/08/2023 20:31

look out the window. Listen to music. You’re not meant to chat to the driver you know, how bizarre?

AutumnIsMyFriend · 18/08/2023 20:31

Taxi

ActDottie · 18/08/2023 20:32

I don’t believe that a 45 minute Uber is £15! I paid £12 for a 20 minute journey the other day.

ASGIRC · 18/08/2023 20:38

Id tube it there and taxi back.

FadeAwayAndRadiate · 18/08/2023 20:39

@Testina I never noticed the 45 minute bit when I messaged you (sorry!) Blush

CatsOnTheChair · 18/08/2023 20:42

Tube there.
Probably taxi home, but expect it to be more than £15.
