Please tell me to stop being stupid

SIL has just announced her third pregnancy.

I'm thrilled for her I really am. But also slightly jealous.

I have two beautiful children but really would have liked three. We couldn't for health reasons. My children are amazing but for some reason her announcement has made me feel slightly sad.

Kick up the arse needed. I'm lucky to have to two I do

It's OK to feel your feelings. Cheesy but true.

If you beat yourself up about them, it will just be worse.

It's like if I say "don't think about a pink elephant"... Guess what you are inevitably thinking about?

It's fine, you are privately grieving something you wanted - be gentle to yourself and you'll find that helps you come to terms with it properly faster than brushing your jealousy under the rug will.

Stop being stupid. Did that help? (Drink some wine, allow yourself to feel sad for a bit.)

calmcoco · 18/08/2023 19:17

I think that's an understandable feeling.

Allow yourself to feel those emotions. Be kind to yourself. There's nothing wrong or bad about how you feel hearing the news, it's completely understandable

You'll have a shiny new baby you can give back when you're tired of playing with it Grin
