Which inanimate objects do you always battle with?

I almost always have a fight with hotel showers. I feel like I'm on The Crystal Maze with most of them, trying to turn them on. It's always pull this knob while turning this dial and pressing the button to your left simultaneously. I just returned from a lovely BnB which had a shower only, no bath and all you had to do was press a button. It was great.

Hoover cords are another nemesis of mine. It doesn't matter what I do, they always end up tangled and kinked. I really need to get another cordless vacuum.

What inanimate objects are your nemesis?

Ceramic hobs in holiday lets. No matter how much i stab my finger at them they won't go on. DH walks up and loving caresses them and they switch on immediately.

Hosepipes. Or more accurate hosepipe connectors. I cannot make the feckers work.

Jam jars! Or any jar. I just can't open them for the first time. I do the hot water, the cloth, the elastic band, the knife tip...literally everything. Someone always has to open them for me.

And, I do have grip strength.

Tap the lid against the kitchen counter or something hard a few time - you are aiming to hit the side of the lid. Releases the air/vacuum and simple of open with bare hands.

I haven't rtft ... but you can just flip at a time, they don't have to be flipped together.

Cat sleeping on the landing each morning. She's a trip hazard.

I hold the top bar, flip one, it goes a bit lopsided , flip the other side and lower it.

I have a scar on my foot from a coat hanger, was so enraged at it catching I yanked it hard and it came down with force onto the bony bit of my foot. And ripped some clothes on its way. Was really bloody sore. Now I alway lift them by the hook and they don’t come away drop to live at the bottom of the wardrobe. Drive DH potty but that’s cause he’s a heartless swine who doesn’t understand a vendetta.

Light switches, where there are 3 together. I have two sets of 3 switches in my house (amongst others). I always have to click through all of the switches to get the light I want. Every time. I just can't retain it. Same in the house I grew up in. Even now I click the wrong ones when I go back to visit my mum. I lived in that house for 20 years.

My back door lock

Caswallonthefox · 18/08/2023 20:52

Door frames. Those bustards jump out and attack me at the most inconvenient times and always when I'm sober.

Jackienory · 18/08/2023 20:54

Car park ticket machines.

LightDrizzle · 18/08/2023 20:56

Folding newspapers. My husband can’t believe it. I’m very careful at lining it all up and folding and it looks like this.
A Smack the Pony sketch referenced this and it made me very happy.

Cling film, even the pricey perforated ones!

PickAChew · 19/08/2023 18:05

Another with arthritic hand so agree with medicine bottle caps and the new bottle caps that you can't remove but can't bloody get back on again

And the latches on the extending bit of my dining table. I love the action of the and find they satisfying but always spend ages fannying one trying to work out whether they're open or shut or if something else is jammed and inevitably hurt something rummaging under the table or leaning down trying to see which way round they go.

Oh - and my phone keyboard. Arthritic thumb again and I keep missing the space bar and inserting random full stops.

HateLongCovid · 20/08/2023 21:56

Duvets and duvet covers 🤬

SprinkleOfSunak · 20/08/2023 21:58

Cling film.

Ironing boards.

WtfHormones · 20/08/2023 22:01

Caffetier...I don't know what's wrong with me but I literally smash one at least once a month.

You can get metal ones. Ours has saved much swearing from DH.

mykookachew · 21/08/2023 07:31

Door handles. My arms are always bruised from banging into them.

dudsville · 21/08/2023 07:44

@theemmadilemma , i have one of those! Lay it on the floor, then it releases the catches and you can just fold it up.
