I'm clearly a dumbass. I've been scammed out of £140 on Facebook marketplace. Which may not seem much to some but this is a huge amount for me. What can I do? She is refusing to refund me. I don't know what steps I can take 😭 any advice? Besides telling me I'm stupid. I already know I am. So frustrating!

Aww I could weep for you. Don't feel stupid, it's just a mistake and we have all made them.

You seem to be totally on it so I'll just wish you well getting your money back

Update!

By some absolute bloody miracle the bank have helped me get refunded. Apparently the person has had numerous spam complaints about. So I feel incredibly lucky and blessed to have had this outcome. Cannot thank you all enough for your support and kind words. You're all amazing! I hope none of this happens to any of you.

Great result, glad you got your money back 👏
I hope they're caught before scamning anyone else, although probably not - they just change name and move on 😩

Your bank can try and get it back but no guarantees. If they have emptied the account you will have no chance unfortunately

Glad to see the banks are starting to do something about these low level scammers. Good result OP.

Great update! I bet you feel so relieved.
Just a point about the driving licence - I work for a government agency and even we don't accept licences as photo ID any more. They are easy to forge and there are too many fakes out there.

Omg yes!!! I’m so happy to read this. £140 coming back into your account and don’t ever send any little shit money on FB unless it’s cash in person or via Paypal at the very least. Well done! X

Brilliant news.

Cookerhood · 18/08/2023 17:33

Someone sent DS a photo of a fake driving licence (& gas bill, it was a non existent rental flat scam). The driving licence looked real but the licence number was in the wrong format, so always worth checking that in the future.

I honestly didn't know that so thank you so so much for your input! I'm staying away from marketplace for a little while now haha and I'll be much more switched on in future! Thank you so much to everyone who supported me and gave me advice. You're all wonderful!

I'm glad you got your money back. Never ever pay by bank transfer or PayPal friends. If ever in doubt, ask on here. Someone will spit a scam a mile off and can give you their advice x
