Resigning but asking for reduced notice - help!

I need to resign from my post after only 10 months. Toxic work environment, no support and lack of any interest or engagement from team on a project they seemingly want delivering. Been left to do it all eg costings given a month ago but like everything else i send it's tumbleweed

i usually ring the boss and give them the heads up before sending a letter but have always left on good terms - not sure what to do now and how to ask for a reduced notice period. Should i ask in letter or call???

i need a reference and have 3 months notice period but can't stand the job. Had no probationary review, induction, training or any supervisions the whole time i've been there - obviously not goi g to say what i want to say as don't believe in burning bridges but what to do?

Are you still in your probationary period? If so you may have a reduced notice period.
if not, do you get full sick pay?

Sunshineclouds11 · 18/08/2023 11:24

3 months is a long time for only being there 10 months!

Any AL? Sick pay?

Some companies agree to a shorter notice period just to get rid quicker.
It's 100% worth an ask, I would put it in writing so you have a record.

Whatever you can negotiate, I'd certainly look to have unused AL included as part of the notice period

I think I’d hand in notice then go off sick, citing stress. State at your sickness review that you can’t see yourself returning & ask if your notice period can be reduced.

Resign first, then negotiate a shorter notice period. In my experience, employers will agree to it.

HermioneWeasley · 18/08/2023 12:16

What is your notice period in your probationary period?

worriedatwork123 · 18/08/2023 14:05

thanks - i'd rather not go sick as i need a reference and don't trust them not to be vindictive

in probationary it's one week notice

can anyone please help me with wording a very neutral letter which either just gives notice or asks for a discussion about notice periods maybe?
